It's hard to understand what people are objecting to here. He needs the clothes for work purposes. Or is he supposed to attend foreign visits in H&M suits? His salary is around 170k before tax, which is honestly not an insanely huge amount in comparison with senior lawyers or executives in the private sector. He shouldn't be expected to blow half of it on fancy clothes for himself and his wife. I really don't understand why the government won't just pay for the clothes he wears at foreign visits. This is completely standard practice in many countries. Oh, and of course, there's nothing at all illegal or improper about accepting clothes as gifts. Or else we should ban Christmas.
