My thoughts exactly, I'm a similar age (1978) and my childhood was ruined by the Tories as a gay son of a Skinhead BNP member. Section 28, underfunded social services, huge gaps in the financial safety net. (When I was kicked out at 16 I was only entitled to claim benefits if my parents confirmed they had thrown me out and I hadn't left voluntarily. It would also allow them to find out where I was.) I know people like to rag on the Blair/Brown government, but *that* was when I started to see life improve. Minimum wage, access to further education, and (as I later found out when I became a Jobcentre Under 18s Personal Advisor) being able to contact any relevant adult to verify the young person's claim. Kermit's supercilious tone, smug attitude, and clear misjudgement about her success in the part time roles she "fulfilled" in government (footnote) would be enough to prevent her from getting anywhere near an official role in any serious party. Even the milk monitor would be too much for her. But she's a 21st Century Conservative Party member, a shining star, and leading candidate for leader of the opposition. Brace yourselves folks, the future doesn't look great. 🤦 (footnote: Part Time Minister for Women and "Equalities" who still hasn't produced a report into any of the 3 public consultations she ran about conversion therapy, who doesn't believe in institutional racism, and who's active loathing of queer and trans people was public.)
