For me, the most enjoyable part of a declutter video is listening to the reasons behind keeping or getting rid of something. So even though you didn't part with any of your primers, your reasons for doing so make sense for your makeup Trip (TM), which was very compelling. It's so interesting how different skin types and makeup preferences can be. I enjoy primer more than foundation and sometimes I'll put on that wet n wild glass correct by itself with mascara and a gloss and call it a day 😂

I also think it's interesting how much skin type affects the products we like. I can see why you enjoy that wet n wild - the finish is actually pretty expensive looking! And I'm learning that adding some of that dewy quality to my matte base products can balance the finish nicely. I've used it several times since this was filmed and it is growing on me! I'm so glad you enjoyed the declutter even though nothing actually got decluttered! 😂

I too have only recently become a primer convert. I think for most young-ins it's not necessary, but as I've gotten older I've realized how crucial it is for my makeup to apply well and last!

I think you've hit the nail on the head, Ivy. The more mature my skin gets, the more poking and prodding it seems to need.

I really think primer is beneficial! But I also understand when people say it doesn’t do anything for them. I think that it comes down to skin type and texture. I find that with larger pores and oily skin for me going without primer will for sure change how things apply and look! I also think people with dry skin can use some extra moisture! I love the BB face base! I feel like and under eye primer would be too extra for me lol.

I agree. My skin used to be normal all around. I don’t know that primer would have done much of anything for me then. But since my skin has become oily and started experiencing rosacea flare-ups, I‘m becoming aware of the difference it makes. If that undereye primer hadn‘t been a gift with purchase I never would have even considered trying it. 😂 But since my skin has gotten thinner, I appreciate the extra help! (That a thin, gel moisturizer would probably also offer.)

It's great you didn't declutter just for the sake of decluttering. It sounds like the makeup course you're taking has been so helpful in highlighting how to use different makeup items, and I agree that the benefits of priming become clearer as we age. When my Chanel Rosy Beige runs out, I'll be on the hunt for a primer again. I used Bobbi Brown's primer for a good while, too. It's a great one! Speaking of the makeup course, your makeup looks just keep getting better and better! The differences are subtle (as in I can't quite pinpoint what exactly you're doing differently -- placing your contour differently, perhaps?), but you always look so radiant in your videos. Excited for the next episode!

You always make that Rosy Beige sound so beautiful. I wonder why Chanel didn't simply release it world wide. (Or make it permanent, since so many people have raved about it.) Thank you! I've been putting much more time and effort into my complexion. I'm so glad it seems to be making a visible difference. I think it's a combination of having that beauty goal for myself (or mastering my complexion) paired with the makeup course. I definitely feel like it's helping me to achieve it faster.

While the green glass skin primer is very shiny upon first application, I think it proves its worth under a matte leaning base product! I love a natural finish, and most matte foundations make my skin look so cakey and thick and dry. But something like that wet n Wild primer can give life to an otherwise too dry situation!
@TheStyleStumbler
@TheStyleStumbler 6 ай бұрын
You're right! I tend to use the sheerest possible layer of my matte foundation, so I can usually avoid too much cakeyness, but the more I use the wet n wild primer, the more it's growing on me. I've used it every day since I filmed this declutter and the more I use it, the more I see its value!

Whether or not you end up keeping the green corrector, it's good that you looked to see what had been decluttered to you instead of immediately running out and buying something. As far as green stuff goes, I sometimes want a barrel of that green stuff Mr. Miyagi had to soak in when I'm feeling really achy. I don't consider this a fail. The fact that the primers on the chopping block got a stay of execution isn't a problem. Since you already have them, and because you're doing the online course, it's the perfect opportunity to experiment and get good feedback from your mentor. you are blessed with a great learning opportunity there. I do find the thought of primers and color correctors interesting because it's the part of the year where I start to get my farmer tan for the year and until it settles in, I more aware of the feel of my skin, especially because the redness from sun exposure is a bit uneven. I's also the part of the year where I feel like a permanent racoon mask would just make my life easier. 😂😂

The first thing that popped into my mind when you said Mr. Miyagi was "wax on, wax off". At the very least the chopping block primers are offering me educational value. I'm lucky enough to have a teacher right now, so I might as well take full advantage of it! 😊 Do you wear sunscreen? I wear it on my face, neck and hands every day, even during the winter. I still get color but manage to avoid redness from sun. Although nothing beats a great farmer's tan. 😂
@zachbecvar
@zachbecvar 6 ай бұрын
@TheStyleStumbler I use sunscreen, but sometimes I'm outside for a long time and I don't reapply it as I should. And I think once I start sweating, it loses some of its effectiveness. I also got a good sunburn on my next the last day of my birthday roadtrip from standing by my car talking for like 3 hours with the sun beating down on me.

Great video!! Maybe you could try the L’Oréal and Wet n Wild primers in some combo or layered together? Then you have the matte quality for staying power and smoothing AND the color correction of the green goo? Just a thought! Hope you’re having a beautiful day! 🤟🏻💛

I used up that Wet N Wild green corrector recently, but not as a face primer (I, too, got minimal redness correction from that primer). I used it as a blush mixer. I had a couple of liquid blushes that were either too warm or very red, bright red, so I mixed in the primer to tone down the colors. The dewy finish was beneficial in this use case, too! It was so good at that job that I considered repurchasing, but it’s something I’m holding off on for now, especially since I have another green corrector I want to finish.
@TheStyleStumbler
@TheStyleStumbler 6 ай бұрын
I'm glad to hear that the low level of correction isn't just in my head. But your idea to use it as a blush mixer is great! I am going to try that, since I've completely used up all my nude cream blushes and am only left with brighter options right now. This might solve that problem for me! What green corrector are you currently using up? Does it have more coverage than the Wet n Wild?
@angelaa.9915

@@TheStyleStumbler funny enough, it’s that same L’Oréal one you have! Just the redness corrector one. It’s also very matte. The redness correction is visible IMO but for me, it’s kind of a “chalky” green-I probably feel that way because it is such a matte finish and the shade of green is more of a light mint (I don’t have a desaturated skintone, so I wish it was greener). I will occasionally use it as an all-over green corrector in the hotter months when I don’t mind the extra mattification, but I also use it as a blush mixer-the matte finish does help the blush last!

I used to never wear primer. It never seemed to make a difference on my oily, rosacea having skin at all. I thought they were a money grab, too! That all changed when Danessa Myricks came out with the Balm Powder. It blurs my pores and helps control my oil in my t-zone with it making my skin flaky. I use it every time I do my makeup. I’ve also found a luminous primer for my cheeks that I like. I’ll use Chantecaille Sheer Rose Glow to just my cheeks so I have 2 primers now! BUT I also really think my sunscreen (Skin Aqua UV Super Moisture Gel) plays a role in priming too-so much so I even apply it if I’m going my makeup at night! It makes all my foundations sit better!
@TheStyleStumbler

Several people have mentioned that primers seemed to gain value as they aged, so I think part of it might just be that skin likes to be more pampered the older we get. I have been SO CURIOUS about that Danessa Myricks Balm Powder ever since it came out! And now I'm even more so. I've also heard lovely things about that Chantecaille Sheer Rose Glow. And considering that I'm now exploring luminosity on my oily skin, that's one that I would at least like to swatch and feel next time I'm at a counter. Yes! Sunscreen can make a difference! I've even ditched moisturizing my face in the morning since my sunscreen seems to have enough moisture for my skin. It can be a real multitasker.

@@TheStyleStumbler If you get the chance to try the Balm Powder, I advise that less is more. I’ve seen some people spackle it on and not like it. I bounce a dry sponge into the container then bounce the sponge in my tzone. Done that way, it’s a game changer!!

I’m assuming you are wearing the double wear foundation in this video and your skin looks flawless! I finally tried double wear this year (after many MANY other foundations). I had always thought it was going to look too cakey due to its long wear claims. But I got a sample and sheared it out on my skin and omg it is gorgeous. All that is to say I like it significantly better than my haus labs, but everyone is different! And I recently started playing around with a glowy primer with the haus foundation (the elf Charlotte t dupe) and like it better now. Maybe see if you can get a sample of the haus labs before the switch from dw. Thanks for these declutter series!

I am wearing the double wear foundation! I'm glad it looks good, because that's all I have left. 😂 I do the same thing: use as sheer a layer as possible. It really is a classic for a reason. I had a chance to try the Haus Labs foundation last summer and really enjoyed it - but I only used it for ten days. I've been using the DW for YEARS... so part of me thinks I should just stick with what I know. And your comment has given me some food for thought. Thank you, Emily!

When i had oily skin in my 20s i found it useful but i was never one to have several. I’ve probably only tried a few and found one and stuck with it. When my skin got a bit drier i tried the tatcha liquid silk and haven’t looked back. I do love the Bb vitamin face and eye bases. Typically if I’m not going for a full face i just use my sunscreen as a primer i guess.

I also usually just used my sunscreen for a primer and was perfectly happy with that. But a combination of the way my skin is changing as I'm aging and more attention to detail has suddenly made me pretty excited about primer. And having combination skin seems to mean that certain sections of my face look best with different solutions. I don't feel the need to purchase any more, but I'm glad to be able to experiment with what I have. I've heard lovely things about that Tatcha Liquid Silk primer though. Maybe at some point I'll give that one a try.

I so badly want to be a primer person. But almost every one I try just falls short. They have such specific use-case scenarios that I am too lazy to bother 🤷‍♀️

I honestly don't think primer is for everyone. I don't think my younger self's skin benefited from it at all. I think the reason I've become a fan so recently is because my skin is visibly maturing. And I am also totally ok with very specific use-case scenarios & don't mind using 4 different primers on ten different sections of my face. (I can also understand why most people wouldn't want to do that. 😂 )

I used to think that about EVERY SINGLE ONE of those items! (And I still think that about eye cream.) 🤣 But as my skin ages, it seems to need more help. And now those things are actually starting to make a difference. But I say: the less the better. If your skin can get away without that stuff, count yourself lucky - I'm jealous! ❤️
