Pureology colour fanatic is awful, it’s like spraying fine wax in your hair, it comes out greasy in your hand when you pull it through and it takes all the movement out of your hair. Why do all the hair gurus wax lyrical about it?
@newgabe096 сағат бұрын
Secret that solved my fine, split end 'ribbon' hair.that sounds like yours. Stop using shampoo and brush the natural oils through daily, many times, like great grandma used to do. Washing with hot water gets rid of dust. If there's foreign oils from a massage, a tiny drop of clear washing up liquid is enough to get rid of it. Note: I am told that this doesn't work as well on naturally curly hair. that doesn't like being brushed) And yes, if I want more fluff, I plait it when wet and let it dry.

I was told many times by hair stylist that I had to "damage" my hair to find a lasting curl. Little did they know how much a little damage would do to my baby fine and thin hair. I so appreciate this! Will be trying it out as soon as I can find myself some curlers.
@TheStyleStumbler6 сағат бұрын
I’ve been told that, too! But with hair this fine, a little damage feels pretty catastrophic. If you have bobby pins or duck clips you could try pin curls. (That’s when you roll the hair into curls yourself and then pin them in place.) It’s a little trickier to do, (especially because getting the curls to stand up away from the scalp - which is what creates volume -takes some practice) but would allow you to try this method without spending any money.
@christycoulsey99704 сағат бұрын
@TheStyleStumbler I really like that idea. Thank you so much!
@michelepascoe606814 сағат бұрын
I relate to your advice. In the 80’s it was easy to have plenty of volume that lasted because we’d perm our hair which would hold the curls (easily achieved with heated rollers). I still mostly (not fully) dry my hair upsidedown with a dryer, then comb through some styling mousse and style with hairdryer and round brush, or heated rollers (no perm). If need to wear a hat for a walk, I use bobby pins for pincurls under my hat to refresh or keep the style instead of squashing it.

Holy crap. I've never heard anyone say the same thing about air drying hair letting your hair get oily in one day versus blow drying. The only problem I have is all the crap chemicals in styling products. I wish I could find some natural products that work well for my hair for volume and texture. I cannot stand hairspray, so that's not an option for me.
@TheStyleStumbler20 сағат бұрын
I'm glad I'm not the only one who thinks that blow-drying hair can extend time before the oils seep through. I hear you. There are definitely a lot of chemicals in those things. It doesn't concern me as much in hair products, since I mostly apply it to my ends and mids, which aren't living tissue. But I can understand why some people are concerned. I find that swimming in the ocean helps my hair hold shape better than just water alone. Perhaps salt water would help? I'm not sure if regular use would dry out the ends though.

I can't believe how many hair products you recommend.... So many toxic products will not serve you long term.... I respect anyone can use what they will.. My other thought is how long do women have to be held captive to long hours of preparing themselves to face the world. I think the time has come to embrace what were blessed with! Clean and groomed is enough? Truly??? I like to think we have we come farther than this.... Find joy in your unique attributes ❤😉
@TheStyleStumblerКүн бұрын
Hi Marianne! Thanks for sharing your perspective. Clean and groomed is perfectly fine. But have you never wanted to dress up for a special occasion? Maybe as a symbol of how important that moment is? A wedding, perhaps? Some of us simply enjoy taking the time to get creative for the sake of joy, too. I have never done these things because I felt I had to look a certain way. I have done them because they're fun. Some people paint canvases, I paint my face. Some people sculpt clay, I sculpt my hair. But I often leave the house in a simple, clean and groomed state, and feel just as comfortable that way, too. No captivity here. 😉 As for the products: I think it's important to remember the distinction between "recommending" products and just showing people what I use. People inevitably ask me for that information, so instead of writing the same thing 200 times, I just state it once in the video. I specifically mentioned that nobody needed to go out and buy them in an effort to make that clear. As for the amount of product: considering that I focus most of them on the mids and ends of my hair, which isn't living tissue, I'm not all that concerned. Harmful chemicals are everywhere nowadays - our food, our air, our water. Instead of being held captive by worry, I just try to live a balanced life (healthy foods made from scratch, lots of movement outside in the sunlight, and lots of time with loved ones). I appreciate the attitude of acceptance you shared in your comment - accepting ourselves as we are and respecting others’ choices, as different as they may be from our own. Thanks for the wonderful reminder to find the joy in our unique attributes. ❤

If the topper is made of real hair, can’t it be coloured to the best shade of grey?
@TheStyleStumblerКүн бұрын
Thanks for the suggestion, Catherine! Although it is made of human hair, hair pieces are pre-treated to create the color they ship with. Making them darker isn't usually a problem, but lifting color is very difficult to do. We haven't found a shade light enough to dye her shade of grey yet, but the company wrote to me to let me know they are starting to make a grey topper. So maybe there's hope yet.

Did wonders. Other methods were impossible. Oh yes, remember Dippity Doo? Haha

Great video! Straightforward and direct. The technique for getting volume and shape that lasts all day is very useful info. Re Bigwigg. I believe it caused my hair to thin badly enough that it caused me to purchase wigs. When I wore wigs I didn’t use much products at all and strangely enough my hair thickened up so that I no longer wear wigs unless it is raining. All the products that I am currently using are the same except I use a different volumizer combo. No excess hair loss.

A super essential volumizer tip from me to you is *don’t forget the cool shot button* on your blow dryer! Heat is used for drying the hair and the cool shot is used for freezing the hair where you want it! I mostly use it while my head is upside down but I also use it at the end while holding the roots up with my fingers. I would be lost without my cool shot button. ☺️👍🏼 Thanks for a helpful video!!! ♥️

I still wish I bought the Trichrome palette by Natasha Denona. I wish she would have options and shrink the palettes down like Viseart. I just threw out my Kat Von D palette. I used up the bigger light gray almost the big peach to the right and three of the other shades. I loved that palette so much and considered buying it again under the other name but is it still the same formula?
@TheStyleStumblerКүн бұрын
I'm also curious to know if KVD is still using the same formula, because the original is truly special. That's why I just wasn't ready to let go of it yet. As for Triochrome: I think ND definitely would have been better off selling that in a smaller format, just because of the colors. They're great, it's just not a color story that most people would need in such a large format. Viseart made a smart choice when they moved to the smaller palettes for half the price.

My hair is also very slippy, so I tease the sections I attach the clips to. My hair is starting to thin, but I still have a good deal left to clip it to. Another commenter with thinner hair mentioned that people with much thinner hair need to be careful, because if there are only a few hairs for the clip to hold onto, the tension could break those few precious hairs.

the topper is real hair ... can't a stylist color a long topper to whatever shade of gray someone wants?
@TheStyleStumbler2 күн бұрын
It’s true that the toppers are real hair, but because hair pieces are pre-treated, it’s easier to make them darker, but very difficult (if not impossible) to lift the color. For people with almost white-grey hair, it’s hard to find a topper that’s light enough to create the appropriate color.

Hi, I have been using dry shampoo for my volume and body for years and it's the best thing I've found for my hair and it works great!! Even after just washing my hair I go ahead and blow dry it completely dry then spray my roots in the area's where I want to add volume, wait a minute or so until it's completely dry then just bend over run my fingers thru my hair then style it like I want and that's it!! Just follow the directions on the can. I use Dove dry shampoo most of the time on my hair but I've used a few other dry shampoo's and they all seem to work just as well. Give it a try and see if it works as good for you as it does me....Good Luck!! 😃

Back in the olden days....1950s, we had "body perms" to get volume. They didn't curl as much as they did give lift and ...volume. Add curlers and DEP and you had hair to the ceiling! And before Velcro rollers were invented, they were plastic. Just plastic. Adding the aforementioned DEP would help the hair stick to them, and yes, we would sleep in them overnight! And we backcombed! Some called it teasing. Whatever you call it, you bunched your hair up in a wad with a comb, then brushed the top layer over it and sprayed Aqua Net until the hair was hard as a brick and not moving! This lasted several days, during which time you did NOT wash it again until the next weekend, usually Sunday night in preparation for school the next day.

I have a topper that I have not worn yet. It needs trimmed up. Since it is real human hair, my stylist told me we can color it to match my natural color! I bet that topper could be colored gray. Wouldn't hurt for your mom to ask her stylist??
@TheStyleStumbler2 күн бұрын
Thanks for weighing in! That's true, real human hair can be colored. But because hair pieces are pre-treated, it's much easier to make them darker than it is to lift the color. If we can find one that is light enough, we'll definitely ask her stylist if she thinks it could work. Or maybe we'll be able to find a colorist specializing in grey, since it can be pretty tricky to get right.

Spot on! They're missing out on a huge market not making these for us silver foxes. But also a note that I found with the topper I started out with. Most of us with thinning hair may not have quite enough hair for those clips to grab onto, and when they do, the pressure placed on those precious hairs could cause them to fall out sooner than they otherwise would have. Just sharing my experience. The topper looks great and very natural on you 🥰
@TheStyleStumbler2 күн бұрын
Thanks for sharing that experience! I can see how easily that could happen. Although my hair has started to thin out, I still have enough that I can clip it to a different section every time I insert it (preventing breakage), and it has a health number of hairs to latch onto, so no individual hair is holding too much weight.

Just came across your channel. Finally found someone else with fine hair that just won’t curl! (With heat at least!) Do you have issues with severe tangling with shampoos that that have any glucosides in them too? One product caused near matting because of decyl glucoside, but other glucosides have the same effect on my hair.

Curl-resistant fine-haired people unite! ;-) I've never actually checked to see if there were specific ingredients causing tangling. Since it only ever got really bad when certain stylists did my hair, maybe that was the culprit. Thanks for bringing my attention to that.
