I had an Angel with my Oscar. Was worried at first but the Oscar grew up with the Angel and what was lovely was he respected and was really affectionate with the Angel. We also had a Severum which was a little aggressive and picked fights with the Oscar. The Angel broke up the fights every time.

i had 2x angels in my 190g sadly they started to lay eggs which i wasnt expecting at all so i had to get rid of them since they took up half the tank, ( they were about 8 inches high and maybe 4-5 wide ) , the oscars were about 4-5 inches at the time and they were rather dumb everytime i went to check on the eggs the oscars would go there and the angels would attack the oscars while they oscars literally just looked at the angels and did nothing about it .. xD

What about a Common or Sailfin Pleco? Obviously, they get big and need a large tank, but it seems like one could fit in well with an Oscar and a school of Silver Dollars. Also, you don't really have to worry about a big pleco destroying all your plants, since you can't really keep plants with an Oscar anyway (or many of the others on this list).

I have a question that may be suitable for a KZbin video. I have a 75 gallon planted tropical aquarium (rainbow, tetras, Platys). I don’t use CO2. I have Fluval 407 and a separate 2 outlet air pump. The lights are on for 7 hours per day. Weekly 30% water changes. I have started to get a lot of black bread algae which from my research may be due to low levels of CO2. I run my air pump 24 hours per day. Is it possible the air pump is causing too much CO2 out of the water and therefore increasing the Black beard algae? Should I only run the air pump on while the lights are on?
@PrimeTimeAquatics2 жыл бұрын
Good question - the air pump probably isn’t the issue. Large air bubbles generally don’t add gases to a tank directly. It’s more so about the surface agitation they create for gas exchange. We have found if we keep nitrates in check (around 20ppm) that keeps the BBA down. Fast growing plants like hornwort also help by competing with BBA.

Tank size works. Fish would get along ok. The only thing I wonder about is will the bicher get enough food with Oscar’s being such aggressive eaters?

How did I not see this video when it came out, Oscar fish are my favorite and I tend to watch every video I can on these guys. Currently I have two female white Oscars housed in a 125gal with two male Green Terrors, an Electric Blue Acara and a Firemouth with two Pictus cats. When I found these two girls they were about an inch long each and all alone in their own tank at a big box chain store, I guess no one wanted them cause they were small and frail looking and had really bad sunkin belly like they were never fed. I almost didn't get them cause I thought they were albino and I don't care for that breed, but I'm glad I did. Jump two and half years and they're both about twelve inch's in length and we love them, Oscar fish are just like dogs to where they come to the front of the tank swimming back and forth when they see you, I think they do recognize their owners as they act different when my wife or kids approach the tank from when I do, they sulk at the bottom once in awhile like a lot of people say and I think they actually enjoy getting water all over the place, cause when I feed them they tend to slap the lids even before I get the food in the tank. All in all I would say Oscars are my favorite S.American cichlids, with Green Terrors being a close number two, A bit of advice to anyone reading this that is thinking about getting one or two. A-make sure you have a big enough tank with great filtration, B-they do eat a lot, so be ready for that, and C- water change water change water change, since I have four big cichlids in a 125gal I have two FX6 canister filters running and do water changes once maybe twice a week, 50% at at time and if you can keep live plants good luck cause they will decorate the tank how they see fit, I have learned Pothos at the top with the roots behind the filter returns help keep Nitrates down.

Of course not - we have said many times that all scavenger type fish need to be fed.

anyone who keeps scavenging fish knows you feed them just like any other living thing. I know this channel has told us this overand overand over.

theres a balance we are trying to make in community aquariums. I think if you don’t realize you have to feed your scavenger fish, then you’re probably not ready for a successful community aquarium.

And electric blues do not work Oscars get 18 inches long and will eat the electric blues

I kept them together with no issues. Oscars generally do not get 18”. It is rare to see them over 12-14” in home aquariums.
