My aquarium store has CPDs for $4 each. I have 13 in my 29 gallon community tank and I love them. They look like little trout, but with dark orange fins. They also have adorable behavior where two of them will circle around each other in what I assume is a display of dominance, but it looks like they are dancing.

Loved my Chilli Rasbora. Had 12 in a 60ltr tank with a Crowntail betta. Soft slightly acidic water 26°C. Fed on crushed Bug Bites and microworms plus betta food, lol. Coloured up beautifully.😊

Have 12 Chilli Rasboras and just love them. Have them in a vertical 10 gallon tank with 6 ember tetras. But boy are they tiny! Have dwarf red cherry shrimp in there that are bigger. Got mine from Glass Grown in Kansas for $56 (12) add a plant to get over $60 and shipping is free. All arrived here in central Florida alive & well. (they show currently out of stock as I write this). Great informative video. Thanks

I’ve had a lot of opposite experiences with these fish, but it’s interesting to hear it from another angle. I’ve found that CPDs: - school more loosely - are more feisty - are less shy (I have 6) Probably lots of reasons why it differs!
@degrawjb3 ай бұрын
While my CPDs are moderately shy (they will run and hide when I get near the tank), I agree that they are kind of feisty with each other. Mine also school very loosely. There will usually be a small bunch of 4-6 hanging out while the rest go off and do their own thing.

I started with 8 CPDs and they have bred to bring their numbers up to 14 so far. Something that images and even videos do not do justice is the bright tip to tail dorsal stripe that they develop. They are such a great little fish. Here in Australia, they were up to 30AUD (20USD) each but in my area recently they have come down to about 15AUD (10USD) each which is how I could justify getting 8.

I've never owned either, but was highly considering it. After researching and seeing each in person. I liked the chilis better ( or the Phoenix rasboras at our lfs, which is even cooler. They seemed to be a deeper red and slightly different markings). But now I'm planning to do Green Kubotai instead. I think they will match the energy and size of my neon tetras/guppies better and just are so unique. One day maybe as I get more experience I'll have a bigger/more tanks I can have all 3 types!

I couldn’t find Chili’s at first so I got the CPD’s. I had terrible luck with them surviving to the point I had only one for months. Till we found older ones from another store. I found an old fish store and the guy had just imported Chili’s, they had held up with being tank transferred more times than the CPD’s. I love them both, and one day I’ll have a big tank for all my favorite nanos.

Took about two months for my chilis to really develop. Very much worth the wait. I run a chihiros wrgb2 light at about 75% power on its stock red setting and they really pop. The CPDs finnage pops under that lighting as well.

When I can find them at the LFS the CPD’s are 8.99. Petsmart has them for 3.99 but only once did they actually have any in the past 6 months that they have had the label up.

I’ve never had chili rasboras however I can say cpds or galaxy rasboras are some of the more entertaining nano fish there is. I highly recommend them if you have a 10ish gallon tank or bigger. They could live in a 5 gallon but I don’t think any fish should be in a tank that small.

I think 8 $ are to mutch for galaxy rasboras. Breed the galaxy rasboras yourself, it's very easy. Two years ago I bought the last 3 galaxys from my local dealer. 2 male and 1 female. After 3 month I had around 20 galaxys. From time to time I breed them just for fun and sell them for 3$ .

Unpopular opinion: The most underrated fish species in the hobby are medium-sized fish like Giant Danios, Rosy Barbs, Swordtails, Rainbowfish, Angelfish, etc. They're large enough to stand out from across the room, but still small enough to live comfortably in a "normal" sized (30, 40 or 55 gallon) home aquarium.

But those are some of the most popular fish in the hobby.

Quick question if I may? I have a dozen of chilli rasboras in a 10 gallon tank and recently introduced a handful of red cherry shrimps as cleaning crew with a neritina. Everything seemed to go just fine for the first 48 hours but now I can't see any of the shrimps 🙁 Could it be that rasboras do go after shrimps (which are about their size)?
@PrimeTimeAquatics3 ай бұрын
I doubt it was the rasboras - their mouths are too tiny to eat the shimp.
@Beb_733 ай бұрын
@@PrimeTimeAquatics Thank you for your reply 😊 I thought the same but yet I can't explain what happened with my shrimps... Total mystery 🧐 Tank has been fully cycled for 3 months to allow the vegetation to grow enough to sustain a cleaning crew and the neritina does a splendid job racing on the glass so he's having plenty of biofilm to eat... I will play the "wait and see" card and you never know, I might see some shrimplets appear out of nowhere in a few days...

While I prefer the Microctenopoma, which needs a video, I absolutely love the Galaxy Rasbora. Took 12, now 15 on accident, to really come out of their shell in a 10 gallon. A nice vertical hardscape in the middle seems to really bring them out. I have driftwood that sits just out of the water at the top while only being about 4 inches wide with less than 2 inches thick. Add a nice java moss mat.
