The interesting thing about The Seven is that whilst most of them are just awful people, they're all miserable. They clearly don't like being superheroes. So it's no wonder this revelation broke some of them, they weren't destined to be superhumans, they could've been normal. It makes even the worst people more sympathetic.
@ashleybrooke20876 ай бұрын
And that is yet another facet of the overall theme. Not only how much more messed up could the world be if there were actual superheroes in it but what would that do to those individuals themselves since they're just augmented humans. Between The Boys and Watchmen and Invincible, we get that sobering, cynical perspective as a lovely juxtaposition against the classic comic book archetypes.

@@ashleybrooke2087 Invincible isn't really cynical. It's just presented as a classic superhero story but with actual stakes, with every action having a permanent effect on the universe they inhabit, and the status quo always evolving, never remaining the same. How is this done? Simple, the entire story's written by just one guy, with a focused vision for how it's gonna go and end.
@ashleybrooke20876 ай бұрын
@@FrancisCastiglione Invincible is more cynical & sobering to me in the sense of how there are more realistic consequences to the violence that happens as opposed to the more sanitized & kid friendly comic book version that obviously intended to not traumatize children. Also, there's that kind of grey morality where the heroes don't always have the luxury of being the completely clean good guy who doesn't kill the villains. Things get messy. It's sort of like the way postmodern Westerns depict the harshness & brutality of the times as opposed to the older ones with white & black hats & no questions about the morality of it all.

I think what we misunderstand about the Deep is that imagine walking by the pet stores, every restaurant, every zoo or aquarium or just swimming in the water - and you hear the other living things. Begging, crying, pleading to not be cut or eaten, to be let out to freedom. You would get traumatized so easily
@collinsides7941 Жыл бұрын
I mean, he explains it pretty clearly in the show. I don't think there is much of a misunderstanding between the Deep's character and us, the viewers. Rather, the Deep is made to look like a joke because his powers have little practical use. That's why he is led down this "redemption" path as he becomes invested in these weird cult-like organizations to repair his reputation after being exposed for sexual assault and being booted from the Seven. He tries to become some environmentalist, nature-loving, spiritual influence as he struggles to gain his fame back. We see how much he struggles with the way he is treated and the consequences of his crimes, and yet, like A-Train, he continues to chase the money and fame, making him look like a fraud. We understand how he hears the fear and pleading in the animals around him, and how no one takes him seriously, but he has yet to prove himself as a person with good intentions to gain our sympathy.

Looking back I used to empathize so much with the deep until I realized what he was saying. He heard a species subjugated and tortured begging for their lives en masse and he heard them, hes the only one who could. And he wantes it to stop. Not by stopping the situation that caused the suffering. He cared more about himself.
@TheManinBlack90544 ай бұрын
I think you'd want so too, if you'd be subjected to this every day, it would drive you crazy. Just think about it. Being constantly in this loudness among the suffering that you cannot stop all the time, not knowing whats happening. And people know about factory farming, what do they do? People have spare cash to help humans, what do they do? There are many millionaires and billionaires and yet they hoard their wealth instead of helping their fellow human beings. People know about climate change, ocean pollution, and many of them do nothing? I honestly emphasize with him more now. What you ask of him is a tall ask that not many people, and I assume you, would be able to make, espeically under such heavy psychological torture, if you think its egoistic to care about yourself in any capacity then i disagree. Personal mental health is very important. And if you cant save anyone, at least save yourself.
@saintvalkyrie1424 ай бұрын
@@TheManinBlack9054 I may be biased because I am in fact a torture victim. So I would make that choice, every time. Because i understand that none of us are free until we all are. I have endured that level of psychological suffering, but with people. I do care. It's not unrealistic, it's his choice. Which is why I feel so strongly about it. I had to watch my abusers not give a shit. And in the show they clearly show how the deep ends up using the marine life of his own pleasure and exploits them, and even tells homelander he will kill as many fish as he wants him too. He dehumanizes them completely and it gets worse. It's sorta the point of his character. He's making that choice. You can want for yourself and for others simultaneously. You can still choose your own survival, obviously put on your own oxygen mask first type thing. He could want to stop hearing their suffering, but still make a better world for them. He could take breaks, bit still be advocating. Instead he is trying to erase it, become ignorant and ignore it.

There's a deleted scene that shows how financially irresponsible he is, and yet, here he is complaining about how people who grew up with money are the only ones that don't care about money. Vought created these supes, gave parents enough money to overlook any ethical/moral objections and inject their kids with compound V. Then gave them no guidance or even misguidance in their upbringing, giving children powers that can seriously hurt people. As far as we can tell just let the parents go with basically WMD's in kids bodies and expecting them to know how to raise them. Some of the supes like starlight were even made to go onto those super kid pageants by their parents, would you expect the average parent to raise a super powered brat into becoming a well functioning person. Homelander is the worst example, Vaughts Frankenstein. Stan Edgar inherited this system when he became CEO, creating kids with god powers then offering little to no guidance, and Stan even looks down on them for how they turned out. It's all just evil
