Am astounded a person Mexican descent could become an astronaut. I worked for BMO at Norton Air Force Base and the puking white officers were so prejudiced. This man was extremely fortunate. Very fortunate.

This film shows its not fortune but tenacity and grit

He wasn't 'fortunate,' he "earned his qualifications with guts and determination" that no other astronaut could understand. This movie made me cry 😢.

Not sure what era you are talking about. I served in the U.S. Air Force, enlisted, for 10 years in the 1990s to early 2002. Worked under and alongside people of all colors. Race, ethnicity was never a problem. Never thought of anyone I was working with as "inferior" based on where they came from. It was always about where you are going using the skills you have.

I believe every racial group has intelligent individuals waiting to be discovered. It’s up to all of us to help each other find our rightful place in society, regardless of race.

The scene of the migrant workers in Florida watching the Space Shuttle lift off would be accurate. I worked in some movie scenes in farmers fields in northeast Florida before. If I were a scriptwriter for the movie, I might have given a child a line while looking up: "Why not me?"

When I look at this person I see many of my former students who were both Spanish and English speaking. Also, I see my uncle who was the late Milton Thompson who was Cuban-African American and an educator!

As someone from the Houston area, I have to inform you that the terrain is way off! The view from the canopy shows mountains and desert. Houston is located hundreds of miles away from any mountains or desert. This area is mainly flat with plenty of green. I am surrounded by miles of forest. I can tell you that many films get that wrong. Other than that, great stuff!

Mostly true. Houston really is not THAT far away from either mountainous terrain or desert but it certainly is not like that in the vicinity. I-35 really marks a good boundary between the forested east and the open plains/dry west. Houston is located pretty close to the Gulf of Mexico and gets that type of climate/weather patterns.
