What do you do for water? Also, you can put that strap across your back & under your arms, then flip the bag over your head (going behind you) & that will make something of a backpack.

Atkrdu the strap configuration is one of many ways. The Pit Pack as you describe is a good method as well. So it really depends on what you have or what you can make. Water...I make a vessel (burn bowl) hot rock boil..I melt ice and drink from streams directly at times. Really case by case.

How much does the elk hide weigh? I'm considering doing something similar, but I read that an elk hide weights almost 40 pounds. Thanks for all of the great content. I'm a 5B guy from now on (I added a 5th B- plan B kit).

Do you have any books/ videos on primitive big game hunting? Getting an elk or deer without glass and a compound or a rifle seems really hard to me, especially out west.

Springs, snow and a leather water bottle. I make burn bowls or carry a horn. Options always surface when you don't carry a metal container.
