@@revampnation9492 I mean, that's not something to be proud of. But, I admit ppl have their limitations. Percussion has their own special music written out. I played tenor sax through grade school and did Jazz, so I had I learned a lot. But with the sax, you don't play chords or play chord progressions. You have to play through them for jazz solos. And by the end of high school, even with a private tutor, that shit just became too much. The fucked up thing about mainstream music classes is that you learn to become a great player, but they don't teach you shit on production or offer classes until college. Having made electronic music/trap for the last decade, kinda wish more was offered for that, but yea. If you're not a dj, twiddling knobs while talking to ppl and getting faded looks amazing too.

Any lame drummer can memorize a cadence. ... The point was to be sight-reading which is a learned skill. It was bad because the point was to prove you can play music you have never heard before. He listened to other people's auditions, and memorized it so he cheated that's why it's wrong

Speaking as the former resident band geek, let me explain the audition scene: The students had to sightread, which basically means they're looking at a piece of music for the very first time and playing it as they see it. Sightreading is EXTREMELY hard (I've botched a couple of auditions sightreading myself) because it's a new piece that the musician has never practiced and the piece itself is usually pretty difficult. However, it seems that all the drummers that auditioned played the same exact piece, and Nick's character, who can play by ear, memorized everything he heard and played it flawlessly. Needless to say, I always loved this movie. I was in the marching band in high school, so this film was always close to my heart. I will say that I can see why "The 7-Up Band" won. They did a real show, whereas J. Anthony Brown's band (the rival band) didn't do any formations, danced in placed (although they did dance and play their asses off; I'll give them that), and used Petey Pablo as a cheat code. There shouldn't have even been a tie-breaker.

The audition was to determine if you’re going play on the field. They’re already in the band. Kinda like football where you have 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and 4th string players. Fun Fact: Drumline and ATL was written, co produced, and loosely based and inspired by Grammy award winning, platinum super producer and GA/Atl native Dallas Austin’s high school/teen years, that’s why both movies got similar styles and characters. 13:00 maybe it’s just me, but if someone I was romantically involved with just ignored me like that, there wouldn’t be any getting back together in the end. Granted, he did make a mistake but she could’ve confronted him about it instead of pretending he didn’t exist.

I also think it's hilarious that Nick Cannon's character can't read music for snare drum. It's one single note, and dude already knows how to play 16th and 32nd notes, it literally wouldnt be hard to try and sight read a piece for snare drum, especially with both of those capabilities.
