The ASANTEHENE as you know him, is a PARAMOUNT CHIEF . He is NOT a KING. In Ghana, there is HOUSE OF CHIEFS and not HOUSE OF KINGS because Kings/Queens was abolished after Ghana gained her independence and became a republic. Only the title CHIEF/PARAMOUNT CHIEF was retained.

@@unghaneen There is no more Empire in Ghana any more. The Ashanti Empire existed long ago before Ghana was formed when there were Kings . After independence when Ghana was formed, those kingdoms were incorporated into morden day Ghana and Ghana became a Republic governed by laws enacted by the Parliament. All the kingship titles no longer exists as they all are bound by the laws of Ghana like any other citizen or Ghana. Ghana now has Paramount Chiefs and chiefs.
