Prince wrote this song at 18-19 years old, it was a demo. He wrote "I feel for you" and "I wanna be your lover" for a female artist Patrice Rushen. She turned them both down. Rushen did go on to have a hit of her own "forget me nots." This is why those two songs sound like they could be sung by women. I feel for you was covered by multiple female artist a few years after Prince did the songs himself in 1978-79. Rushen missed out. R&b still had a bluesy feel to it at the time. The young Prince set the tone for the future of R&B and was a major influence in pop music.

.. Prince was a teenager when his first couple of albums were composed, produced, arranged and preformed alone.. I know that the thumbs down people didnt/couldnt make a single hit. ANY REAL musician would respect that Prince did all the work and mastered countless instruments. More than likely they have only dabbled in one instrument or they would know that being a multi instrumentalist isnt easy. I cant really understand any other reason for a thumbs down. He is the most PROLIFIC writer in history.. Prince broke the genre lines and is a genre of his own. That should be praised by any real musician.

He was so talented and brilliant....and One of the BEST , if not THE best guitarist that ever lived!!! So happy I got the pleasure of seeing him perform twice!!! He gave us some awesome music ,so appreciative of it all! RIP PRINCE...WE WILL FOREVER LOVE AND MISS YOU !!

First of all.. where have you been living... under a rock?? Prince won praise and acclaim in spite of his being light skin negro male. He was never anyone puppet like those in the black pressure Media gallery! And at risk if sounding like a nut Prince R "death" is a lie because Minnesota is in the process of a takeover by illiberal govt employees. The following Prince R Nelson has is nothing like what any televangelist has ever had! And prince Nelson has GGPs out of Denmark and Norway. Darker color nigroes are so ugggly 😝. And his grandson look so much cuter than prince did age 10 . Picture of Prince R Nelson in elementary school guy is ugggly because the camera is darker so that caucasian look tan!

He played 27 instruments, wrote all his own and many protoges lyrics, Acted, Directed, Produced, and recorded with everyone from Madonna, Gwen Stefani, Stevie Wonder and Parlament Funkadelic and many others. He was like The Beatles all rolled into one. RIP HIS ROYAL BADNESS.

dollbaby4400 For me the year was 1979. I was 9 years old. I was watching Don Kirshner’s Rock Concert and Prince launched into I Wanna Be Your Lover wearing tiger striped bikini briefs and a tiger striped vest. It freaked me out because his hair was just as it is on this video. My cousin and I laughed in disbelief. Fast forward to Do Me Baby and the Controversy album and I was a screaming pre teeny bopper at the age of 12. It was the feeling his music created that drove us wild. And the way he could make his voice go up and down with skill. When 1999 came out I was a diehard Prince friend.
