Prince Philip handled himself so well in this interview and in every other situation. He was so refined and handsome and I love his voice. He is a man for the ages. The Queen chose her mate so well. He was a great asset to the monarchy. Together they reigned with class and steadfastness.

@John Malone; As a fellow non-royalist, I agree with you. Hating the people who fell into that unfortunate path of life due to an accident of birth is plain silly. Even sillier is the inability to acknowledge how many individuals like The Duke Of Edinburgh endeavoured to make the most of his difficult and constrictive position to contribute to society. One of my reasons for disliking a monarchy is that it puts more restrictions on one family than any other in the country whilst considering them to be the highest in the land. All the perks of being a royal are warranted to my mind as they lose the utmost perk of all which is the ability to freely make life choices. Royal or not, Prince Philip was a good man.

I’m watching the Crown as well and agree. This interview, however, reminds me more of the film On a Clear Day You Can See Forever. In that film, the more neurotically Barbra Streisand overacts, the more woodenly Yves Montana underacts. It’s the same with this reporter and Philip. “Yes, yes, the media, sacred cows. One hundred years ago, fainted dead away.”

Prince Phillip has wisely avoided too much time in the media, knowing how it gloms onto anything it can to cause controversy. This interview shows how that's unfortunate as he is clearly a thoughtful, no-nonsense man who is very interesting. I've always admired the Duke, and these moments reaffirm that feeling.

Because of his age and his old habit of cracking jokes from his younger days he recently became the butt of idiotic comments. In his early days with the Queen, he was the Diana of his day, except that he knew how to keep his mouth shut at times of conflict. I saw him at RAE Farnborough in the early 1950s. He was walking with a small group which walked past the entrance to our Dept. He suddenly peeled off and walked past my window and into our building. The group must have been idiots because they walked on for a while before realizing he had gone. By the time they caught up with him, he was in a deep conversation with a top scientist. He just had an enquiring mind and got bored with the normal things that were laid on for him. Respect.

His mother in law didn’t take to him at all and was cruel in her descriptions of his mother. It was because of her and Churchill that the family couldn’t take his name for years. Things only went wrong for Diana when she made things public and did that interview. It is now known that Prince Philip was welcoming to her because he was the outsider himself.

beltunga1 I’m not so sure. Thorough philosophical investigation would bring him face to face with his own obsolescence. The very idea of using his role for the public good is moot unless his own disinvestment is part of the package. The only good, enlightened, honest, morally consistent royal is one who who is prepared to allow his office to die with him. The end of monarchy is inevitable.

@@markofsaltburn One question....WHY? Just because something is OLD, that does not equate with obsolescence, and mandate that it be discarded.Our Anglo-Saxon rights to a fair trial, by a jury of our peers, are quite ancient, and most nations of the world do NOT have such rights.....but i should be very reluctant to give them up, and be like most of the world, bereft of a "fair trial." I'd put the Monarchy in the same category of being "old, but desirable."

@Mark Kenny it seems you've not done any real research. You need to ask yourself why these Royals are connected to people like Savile and Epstein. Research Mountbatten and again you'll find more accusations of paedophilia. David Icke has written extensively about the elites murdering and raping children. He named Ted Heath while he was still alive and was never sued. Research Brice Taylor, she has also named this man and other Royals/Elites in her book. She claims to have been trafficked to them and again no litigation was forthcoming. Jimmy Savile had the run of the palace, could go anytime day or night. He took holidays with Thatcher and was knighted by her Majesty and the Pope. He was given the keys to mental.institutions and hospitals. Could do anything he wanted to innocent, defenseless children. He was a DJ from Leeds, strange eh? Well he was a conduit to the rich and famous. He gave them what they wanted - kids. Epstein similar, this is why Maxwell's daughter was procuring the kids off the streets cos they are more likely to trust a woman. Prince Andrew was a regular visitor to Epstein's hideaways. The kids were much younger than the 17yr old he was photographed with. The media is controlled by the elites and does its best to hide the truth. A paedophile is not interested in 17yr olds. As Epstein allegedly remarked when asked how he liked them...younger the better. I could go on and on....
@jonnyslater72
@jonnyslater72 5 жыл бұрын
@Mark Kenny so you don't believe that Philip and Savile were close friends? Or that Andrew is a friend of Epstein. I say is cos he's more likely alive than dead. How many paedophiles do you know personally? I don't know any.

It is a good point. In terms of the British unwritten constitution there is no defined role for the male Consort of a Queen Regnant. There isn't even a defined role for the heir to the Throne. I can't agree more with his disdain for judging people for their job. Here in America it's always the first thing people say to new people they meet "so what do you do?". I personally think it's an insulting and disrespectful question, definitely not the best way to start any kind of real relationship. It's ironic this is so ingrained in a democratic society that cares so much about individual liberty and yet we're so obsessed with associating people with their menial jobs like we're back in feudal times. And here we have a literal member of a monarchy saying how terrible that is.

He is an intelligent man, who was not allowed to make any changes in RF, since Mother Queen wanted Elizabeth to carry everything the same way as before she became the queen. He was modern, they were conservative and archaic. He had no power to change anything, watch documentary about his mother, then you understand where he came from.

So honest, straightforward, intelligent , independent and free thinker, of course he did not want to create so called image but just got on with way of life so diligently, gracefully with his own passion and loyalty. At least now we see how great prince Phillip is rather than what the media tried to portrait about him wrongly. May he be with divines and attain supreme Nibbana in a future life. Just feel Queen was queen due to this strong backbone, real royalty, king without a crown. Their children, Politicians and traders never would make such a great human and personality.

Everything about the man seems solid and decent... I met him once for a longish chat and I have looked up to him since. He spoke genuinely and without any compromise but was rarely extremely rude except to those who, to be frank, deserve chastisement... But mostly it was all in sheer wicked humour, I think - a bit of an act. It's how men once were - proud of their own - and times for our people seem to have changed, at least for those we see on the tv, not for the better. Oh well, whatever... he was and is a colourful character for sure!

Watching 'The Crown' during the pandemic peeked my interest in the royal family. Prince Philip died just about the time I finished the last episode. I then consumed every video I could find about the life and love of Princess/Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip. He stands out to me as a statement of how Elizabeth was given the vision to choose him as her mate; also even with growing pains getting use to his role, he went on to be such a support to the Queen and a leader of his family and of any endeavor he took on. His love for and support of the Queen is like no other I've seen. This interview and videos of him make me think very highly of Prince Philip as a person, consort and man of integrity, a competitive man, a man with strength of character and with commitment to duty. He made mistakes and was not perfect but overall, you knew where you stood with him. He spoke his mind and most always made sense. He loved his family and the tradition of the monarchy. May he rest in peace.
