As much as we know our place in society & are proud to be Black you always hear some people having a problem, especially with Black-Mixed race women, who they feel aren’t ’really Black’ & are over-represented in TV & film (which that part is true). I see it online all the time how they rail against Black-Biracials. There's footage of the memorial from Minneapolis, from downtown at the club, First Avenue, where he made Purple Rain, and in this huge crowd, you will see every color, a huge range of ages, all kinds of different people, and they all love Prince, they all love the music. We just don't have many entertainers like that anymore, in any genre, but especially music. It has become so compartmentalized, so divisive. That's not right. Music should be a universal language, it should be something that unites us, that gives us common ground, because God knows we need it. Prince understood that, and he excelled at it, and it's why he was so loved and why we're hit so hard--in a way we maybe weren't when we've lost others recently. Their loss was tragic and they'll be missed, no doubt, but Prince was just special, he has a special place in the lives and memories of so many of us, and we weren't prepared, at all, to let him go so soon.
