Strange Relationship is funky as hell with a cool beat and great vocal arrangement. I swear, this collection of recordings is better than most of his official albums!! Love the chords to I Would Die 4 U!! Madonna used the rhythmic component to this later on Open Your Heart. It worked, too. Love that cool thing the band does during three, four and on the one in Hot Thing after Prince yells, "Do it!!" They react so fast with little notice!! Incredible band and band leader right here.

This funk he recorded I can take a pass on, but of all the pop songs I've ever loved more of them are by Prince than anyone else in the industry. In jazz, more are from Miles and Coltrane than anyone else. In R&B, Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis made the most that I loved. Other genres I'm not so sure on. Wait a second. This funk shit here is hot!! I just heard the up tempo 'Popcorn' number with the James Brown beat! Definitely worth hearing! I just changed my mind. Yeah. Absolutely LOVE that beat!! Listen to those horns, too!! Wow!! And that guitar!! What a tight band!!

Someone 2 Call!! That's the sound D'Angelo is usually going for!! That repeated guitar/bass figure in the bottom is everything!! It's always cool to hear that kind of groove from either one of them, but Prince will put a dope guitar solo over it!! My man D'Angelo would have to hire somebody else to do it!! Haha!! Hard to tell where the one is in it, which makes it even more incredible. Do you listen to the vocals to find it or the bass/guitar part? I can't tell yet. I'll have to study this until I get used to it. It ended too soon though. Lemme go back to it. Yeah, that's dope. Probably one of his BEST numbers. D'Angelo dedicated a whole album to that kind of feel and it's considered a masterpiece, even though it's completely Prince's concept! As long as someone can pull it off I'm happy. D'Angelo needs to get off his ass and continue to carry the torch unless he can come up with something better, which isn't likely. Ooops! Did I say that? Haha He might be able to. They used to jam together so he definitely had Prince's approval and support, which is cool. Says a lot about his abilities. Wish he had Prince's work ethic and commitment to clean living. We wouldn't still be waiting!!

Well he wrote both 🤷🏾‍♂️. Writers tend to write similar compositions. Some of them they keep or give away or throw away. We all loved Prince here but he was limited like many songwriters and a lot of songs were in the same key, bpm and genre because they worked. He also experimented other genres some work and some didn’t. I loved his earlier music 79’ up until the early 90’s
