When Prince became a Jehovah's Witness he rejected the pagan cross, after he did his own personal research into the Greek word " Stauros ' . In ancient Greek stauros meant either an "upright pale or stake", a "cross, as the instrument of execution, or a "pale for impaling a corpse". Larry Graham, his bass player is also a Jehovah's Witness, whom he studied the Bible with. They both accepted the Bible's words:" To us there is one God the Father..." ( 1 Corinthians 8: 6 ) Prince rejected the Trinity doctrine, prior to his becoming a JW.

It's important that the information is told once Prince found out the truth about the cross symbol that is why he changed the song to the Christ the cross is a pagan symbol which he's simply refused to recognize

@c.f rosemond the cross is not a pagan symbol but the Roman Empire used a crucifix in a cross shape to impale their victim, usually prisoners and slaves that committed treason. But Jesus was not killed by the Romans he was killed by the Jews and the Jews impaled their victims on a pole usually wooden because it tortured for longer. Prince was aware of the propaganda
