I must say congratulations for getting through forty Prince albums. I like Prince but not that much. Anyway, here's my top ten favorite Prince tunes: 1. Kiss (By far) 2. Let's Go Crazy 3. Delirious 4. Love Sexy 5. Party Man (From the Batman Soundtrack) 6. When Doves Cry 7. I Would Die 4 U 8. Baby I'm a Star 9. Sign O' The Times 10. Raspberry Beret HM: When I was a kid, my dad, who is no longer here, would play my Purple Rain cassette, in my mom's car, and listen to the song Purple Rain, over and over and over again. He loved that song, and I think of him every time I hear it.

I love Prince, I would put him as a top 20 artist for me., but as much as I love him, but as I was going to do a deep dive, I made a sad realization, I've only ever listened to 3 of his albums from beginning to end: Purple Rain (of course), Dirty Mind, and Sign O the Times (a mere once), and I hate agree with Jason, but I didn't care for it, found it overwhelming, and the only songs I did like were the ones I already knew. I did however have The Hits/B-Sides compilation, which I listened to death, so unsurprisingly, most of the songs are from there: 10. I Could Never Take the Place of Your Man 9. When You Were Mine - I love the line "you didn't have the decency to change the sheets" 8. Little Red Corvette - I've heard this song a million times and yet I never heard "limousine" until Joe pointed that out. 7. Erotic City - A great B-side, Crazy and dirty, but with an infectious energy. 6. 1999 - I hate synths, they are so dated sounding, even in the capable hands of Prince. Here is one big exception (and Van Halen's Jump), where the synth is used to great effect. Okay, so the lyrics don't mean as much in the 2000s as it did in 1982, but who cares. 5. She's Always in My Hair (12" version) - the other great B-Side, and even better in it's 12" version, though B-side version is great too. 4. 7 - You'll dislike the "Love Symbol" album, and didn't even mention this one. I think it's great, really infectious production with a great vocal. What is he singing about? No Clue 3. Raspberry Beret - Just one of the best choruses ever. A pop masterpiece. 2. Let's Go Crazy - Prince proving he could rock as hard as anybody, if he wanted to. Red hot guitar, off the wall energy, catchy as hell, just everything I could want in a song and more. A Top 100 song for me. 1. When Doves Cry - My 12th favorite song ever. An absolute masterpiece. Erotic without being gratuitous, Sounds like nothing else, great lyrics, great vocals, 5 weeks at number 1, and I think no matter when this song was released it would be a hit, it's got a wonderful timeless quality.

"Shhh" is incredible on TGE, but it was even better on stage. Toward the end of his life, it was a routine highlight of his sets. Such an incredible song, and one he actually wrote for Tevin Campbell (which makes sense of the high school lyrics).

For once, I'm totally with Joe on the top two. 1) Little Red Corvette (the best pure pop song since the Beatles hung it up). 2) I Would Die 4 U (the second best pure pop song of the 80s. The drums and those synths are God-tier. It sounds dated but it's so incredible that it doesn't matter.) As far as the rest of the top 10, I'm with Joe as well on most of it being a large majority of Purple Rain. I would probably have the song Purple Rain at #3 and Raspberry Berret at #4. One of the only songs not mentioned that would have to be in his top ten is Adore from SotT. Some of his best vocals ever. When Doves Cry is probably my #5 and Let's Go Crazy at #6. The rest for me would be a toss-up between Darling Nikki, Adore, I Could Never Take the Place of Your Man, Kiss, P Control, and 1999. If his live Creep cover performance from Coachella could count, it would be top 5 just for the guitar solos alone. He had the holy spirit of some God or another flowing through him during that performance, Jesus Christ. That man could really shred when he wanted to. He may be gone, but the music lives on. Take Me With You (which is my #2 off Purple Rain), or even 1999? I'd be curious if you guys have ever spent much time with some of the other "Minneapolis Sound" artists. Alexander O'Neal? Thanks for getting through your Prince opus with your culmination of top 10 best song lists, I still don't like Prince (except for Purple Rain) as I think the eighties was probably the worse decade of twentieth century music. I really liked big band 40s, the rocking 50s, and the ladder half of the British Invasion 60s, and the beginning of hard rock and prog rock from the 70s. The 80s seemed like a decade without anything really good except for the Boss and Billy Joel. At least the 90s had grunge. Weird Al tried to get permission to do a parody Prince Album and was turned down. Prince also sued anyone who covered his music such as Sinaid's version of his best song Nothing Compares to You which vocally was far superior to his own recording. I really enjoy your takes on music particularly from music that I like and from single album reviews from music I was unfamiliar with until you featured the album/artist.
