Here is yet another document that shows Eric Leeds was the greatest sideman that Prince ever had.

He definitely added a fuller sound and another dimension & depth to his music. 🕊️☮️

And yep. And the funny thing? He didn't like Prince's music all that much :)

Eric is definitely top tier - as well as Brown Mark, Sonny T., Morris Hayes, Rosie, Tommy Barbarella, Rosie Gaines & Michael B. Peace & Be Wild.

I agree! Mr Leeds is the ONLY reason I love the SAX!

I didn’t think Eric was around In ‘81

This is most likely 85 or 86 bcuz he call's out Sheila & Eric & says Players Ball (which is from the Mazarati album, making me think he had more to do with that song)

Yes, in the notes I corrected it and say that it was March 85. Thanks for viewing. You can listen to that whole sound check here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/rn3Jmninh66ZpqM 🕊️☮️

Am I the only one who heard the inspiration for Erotic City in this version?

The inspiration came from attending a Parliment Funkadelic concert but I do hear it

1981 u say, but thats wrong. it must b 1984 (and maybe 1985) 3 years later. Because this rehearsal is with Eric Leeds.

Yeah… I say in the notes that I’m not sure of the date. It’s probably ‘83-84, plus he mentions Sheila E’s band and I don’t think she was on board in ‘81. I’m not redoing and reposting - plus the music is what’s most important, so people will need to read these comments. 🕊 ☮️

Certainly past 81 because prince didn’t start to heavily use the Linn until 82, private joy on controversy was the P first song that had the Linn Sounds like 83-84 to my ears as well

Man, two possible #1's, or at least top 10's, for Mazarati were ripped from them (Kiss and Jerk Out).

Going to repost a reply from another related comment: IMO they were lucky Prince did anything for them. They were Brown Mark’s finding and pet project, Prince tried to help out. Not his fault Mark couldn’t write any hit songs for them. They turned down Jerk Out for Player’s Ball - that mistake was on them. Not that Jerk Out would’ve succeeded cuz The Time updated it some for their successful take. But yeah, still screwed them on Kiss… but it was his song to take back. He more so screwed David Z & Brown Mark - they didn’t get any producer credit for Kiss. Anyway, thanks 4 the listen n comment. 🕊️☮️

I didn't know Prince wrote this song . I should have Morris Day and the time i love them. They can write some good music but something like this had Prince written all over it i had a funny suspicion this was a Prince song. Jerk Out who else could think of something like this.

Except for their Pandemonium CD (he only wrote 3-4 songs), all other The Time albums he wrote & produced 90-95% of their songs. Jesse Johnson was the main member of The Time who co-wrote/produced a few songs and I believe Morris co-wrote a few but that’s difficult to know for sure because since they were close friends, Prince gave Morris cowriter credit on a lot of songs that Morris didn’t write. Lastly, outside of their last CD - Prince played all or most of the instruments on their albums and Morris was brought in to do the vocals. The only time the band actually played was on tour and live performances (similar to his first handful of albums, his band was only for live performances). Prince was their guiding force. Thanks 4 the comment and listening. 🕊️☮️
