What a nightmare. You may have gotten a luxury plane ride but the amount of misery and stress you caused for yourself and others outweighs it in my opinion. Not to mention the inconvenience you caused the flight crew and airport employees. Doesn't matter that the flight left on time. That's probably because the airport staff had to rush to get your bag or else get penalized for delaying a flight. Videos like this make me miss being able to see the dislikes on a video.

Rule 6: Don't inconvenience fellow travellers while trying to game the system. With all due respect, I think you were highly disrespectful for deplaning the Lufthansa flight just for fun and games. I'm on your side when it comes to cunningly benefitting from small windows of opportunity that airlines may give you that allow you to snag a good deal, free upgrades, vouchers or refunds. They're big profitable corporations that, as you mentioned, nickle and dime travellers for everything and, moreover, are quite successful in not paying taxes. So by all means, take a little advantage of the corporation here and there. However, I feel you're crossing a line when you're becoming a plain nuisance to airline staff (especially flight crew) or other passengers. These folks already have a pretty tough job, don't make it worse. Just ask yourself the simple question: "how would it be like if all passengers behaved the way I did?". If the answer is "not great", then don't be that person. Aside from that, keep up the good work. I appreciated the first 4 steps, even though I tend to fly mostly for the purpose of getting to my destination, or at a minimum, enjoy low-stress travel, so won't be purposely copying this strategy anytime soon.

If I’m that captain, I would be so pissed too. You didn’t only costs Lufthansa and their passenger ‘time’. But you also costs them more consequences and it’s probably costs a lot more than $472 for sure. Every time the flight delay, it costs a lot. I’m not talking about A specific flight but as an airline captain, let me explain in general principle. First, the crew must search area where you’ve been onboard (seats, bins, toilet) for possible IED (aka bomb). If your ‘mind change’ is too suspicious. We might have to deplane all passenger and have a through bomb search. Then if you have checked baggage, the captain will have to call loading truck back(he might have already drove away to serve another flight or some airport might have just one loading truck, period), re-open the cargo hold, unlock the brackets, bring out ULD box down (hopefully it’s the ULD box near the door, innermost box would take at least 20-30minutes to get to), search for the bag in the box(hopefully it’s not in the bottom and innermost), take out the bag, close ULD, lift it up and slide it back in cargo compartment, lock floor brackets, close the cargo door. These could range from 10-15 minutes to over an hour depending on the baggage matching system at the airport. At this point, some passenger might want to get off a plane as well since they are also afraid you might plant a bomb on a plane. The more people get off, the next wave will come. It’s a domino’s effect. After no one else wants to leave the plane. The load supervisor then had to reissued load sheet with final weight and passenger figures and bring the load sheet to cockpit to get a signature from captain. Pilot have to reprogram performance data, recalculate the take off data. Then they close the door and get a push back clearance (assuming the flight plan hasn’t already been cancel if it’s been too long). The flight might had missed the pre-assigned pushback/takeoff slot time and the new slot could be more than an hour away from scheduled departure time (happens a lot pre-pandemic and in country such as China, it could be 2-3hrs away) Many passengers could miss their connecting flight when they arrive their destination. Some will have to wait until the next day or two for a new flight and they have to shell out their own expenses for hotel room. Or they could’ve missed their transfers (for example a remote ski resort might run their bus once a day in the morning, if you miss it, you have to wait for another day) So changing your mind and getting off an airplane at the last minute is not as simple as you jumping off a yellow cab. If you’re having fun trying to beat the system so be it but please don’t be a dick by causing multiple problems for others.
@BoeingJetJockey2 жыл бұрын
@@ot8479 I have been flying almost 30 years. True, passenger who change their mind last minute happened to me about 10 times. But when some passenger who jump a flight at intermediate stop (say a flight from point A to C but the flight will stops at point B. Some A to C passenger who has checked baggage wants to get off at B instead….happens almost every time!) More often it’s when passenger who have checked baggage but didn’t show up at the gate at departure time and we have to re-open cargo compartment, search bag, flight delayed 15-25 minutes but cause further delays because we loose slot time happened to me about 15-20% of the time.

To a point, I can understand your point of view. Being in the position of Lufthansa crew or passenger, I would first see it similar. At the bottom, however: The issue is with KLM (and the low cost carrier). KLM should just have honored a contract and eat the loss. They made the mistake, probably learned from it, and can act accordingly in the future. Fact is, they did close a contract with a customer, and them trying to get out of it made the situation as it was, PLUS: The low fare carrier (forgot the name) was not performing according to the factual Visa regulation of the destination port. The guy at the counter should have done more to verify his claim, especially if a customer makes clear, that his information is of substance - no matter how contrary to the service guy. May have been more of an ego game at this point, than customer oriented behavior?
@lukilup12 жыл бұрын
@@yxcvmk to be honest, i have a different view on that. 1. He booked a fare that was clearly the result of a (technical) mistake. He definitely knows the fare was a mistake and that air france has every right (according to the terms and conditions and the french/dutch law) to cancel his booking and to refund him. Air france however didn't even cancel his booking like they could legally do, but instead offered him to travel in Business class (still >4x more expensive then what he paid). 2. After the mistake was discovered by air france he didn't step back and he didn't accept the business class offer/demand a cancellation, but instead his secretary kept the call center busy for hours and even started lying and hanging up the phone when they weren't supportive for him to fly first class. 3. I understand that vueling (low cost carrier) didn't want to take the risk of taking him to algeria, since it would be their responsibility to take him back to spain on their expenses if there appears to be an issue with his "visa free" transit. Speaking of which, the visa free transit wasn't published anywhere explicitly, he even had to call an embassy to check whether the transit was possible (what can not be expected by an airline, they stick to the immigration requirements IATA shares in their database). But i accept that you have a different view on that.

I know this from over 15 years of international First and Business free (award) travel across all 3 alliances. Way too much effort and stress here, was this really worth the hassle? How about all the work and time others had to go through for you to get your 'dream' flights? I really enjoy your videos but this crazy panic over what flights you might get as if it's life or death really missed the mark, especially in this day and age when most people would be grateful to get any flight.

I do see your perspective Niall, in fact as I was going through it I was asking myself the same thing. Most people would dream of flying Lufthansa First Class but here I was so emotionally strung on La Première. At the end of the day though we all have our irrational desires that we'd go to extreme lengths for, mine happens to be travel and aviation and hence I forged ahead every step along the way.

I can appreciate the attitude approaching this to the point of not caring/being in denial about what led to these fares on the airlines side - but they are indeed error fares that were never meant to be published at that rate. That reminds me the one time I flew to Abu Dahbi with Etihad. I had upgraded my economy tickets at the FRA airport - and not like I usually do, by bidding online. So I arrive in Abu Dhabi and theres still 6 hours for my next flight to MNL. As usual I go to the Etihad lounge to pass the time there. But they wouldnt let me in because the ticket was upgraded AT THE AIRPORT and NOT ONLINE. Thats why my ticket had a "W" I think, printed on it to indicate that. Only in Abu Dhabi they have this stupid policy. I dont really understand why. Anyway, I still wanted in, so I went to the Etihad counter downstairs and asked a guy to print me a new ticket without the "W". And after a few tries he was successful and handed me my new "W" ´-free ticket and I could finally enter the lounge. Very nice of that guy, because I dont think he´s supposed to do something like that LOL

Instead request Airlines to give You free business and first class flights as a KZbinr by a polite letter, not e-mail, on watersign paper. If the airlines would check, re-check, re-re-check, re-re-re-check, re-re-re-re-check the prices before posting and re-check it another 2 after posting and making all policies easier to read and understand it would have made it so much easier for those other travels

I’m at the point of the video that AF is refusing to honour, his fare. I am going to state what I would do in such an incident. Since airline fares are codified, I first would point out to that agent, that they can verify it is an authentic fare. In the event they continued to refuse that ticket. Pull out your Amex, pay for the full fare. Then dispute the second charge, on the grounds that you were holding a valid ticket, that AF sold you, but arbitrarily refused to honour! This also, probably will save you the reissue fee! Let’s see, if I’m correct!
