Princess Charlene de Monaco Rose

This is one fast-growing rose! Princess Charlene de Monaco Rose was purchased just four months ago and it has put on a ton of new growth and even a few new green cains. Best of all it has flowered like crazy. 20+ blooms with many more buds set. This rose was voted as Rose of the year by "American Gardens" and has won several awards for its beautiful fragrance.
Princess Charlene of Monaco:
- 6ft tall and 2.5ft wide. This is a HUGE shrub rose.
- Large leaves in dark green.
- Large 3-inch flowers.
- First a soft orange, then pink/coral, and fade to white.

The best way to plant this rose is to purchase soil specifically for Roses. You can use the entire bag to fill up a container or amend your current ground soil with this.

While planting, it's a good idea to add some fertilizer for these plants to munch on because they have a lot of work to do. If you are planting a bare root rose then they have to first set new roots and then new leaves and flowers. Growing those beautiful roses is a lot of work and these plants are big feeders! You will also need to feed them every 14-21 days during the growing season.

A bare root rose will need to be soaked in water for a minimum of 2 hours, but it's best to let them soak for 5-6 6 before putting them into the ground. When you plant a rose, plant it deep. Put the crown of the plant below the soil grade. It's always a good idea to have some mulch too because they like moist soil. And, last but not least you will want to have some spray on hand that can kill bugs, aphids, white flies, etc.
This Organic spray has Neem oil which you will want to spray every few weeks. This will also help with black spot and powder mildew. If you have ever grown a rose you know these take a bit of work but are well worth all the love.

Love the roses! I just ordered my Princess Charlene de Monaco today. Just FYI - pronounciation, "Monaco" is "M-AHN-AH-Co" and its "Co" as in Co-coa. Next - "Milan" is a city in Italy and its pronounced "ME-L-AHN" 🙂

I promise you that this will quickly become one of your favorite roses. The first flush in 2023 was amazing - large cupped rose with amazing sent. They had every shade of soft pink, apricot and peach. It's an amazing rose!!!

Beautiful! I, myself started planting DA roses just this year. I started with 2 Desdemona bare roots that are blooming right now. This month I found a 3gallon pot of Lady of Shallot and Emily Bronte in our local nursery and had to bring them home with me 😁 I wonder what will be my next one 😅 Thank you for sharing your beautiful roses!

@@otchsigua8223 I do not have LEH but do have Lady of Shallot. I can say that from the 4 DAs that I have, Lady of Shalot gives me the most blooms but it is not as fragrant as Desdemona or Emily Bronte. TBH, I don’t think I smell anything from LOS blooms. I can’t speak about vase life as I haven’t tried to do that yet. Hope that helps.

I have this on order. Charlene is pronounced Shar-len. Monaco is Moh-NAH-coh with the 2nd syllable stressed. De rhymes with the, with the schwa sound. Meilland is pronounced May-YOHN.

I think you would be fine to do so. David Austin says to plant them at half the width of the mature size of the plant, so use the biggest pot you can find 😊

I just had the first two blooms on my princess Charlene and they had a very faint scent. Not sure if that's normal and if the scent will change with time?

Mine is very fragrant....maybe in time yours will become more powerful. I struggle with Emily Bronte and her fragrance. Most people say she has a very strong sent and for me she is weak. I guess it could be placement, watering, feedings. I would suggest more rose feed and if your are in a hot climate maybe water more often. I have had this rose for three years and this year she has been one of my lease productive roses, while in the last two years she was one of my best.

I purchased this rose from my local garden center, but I believe you can find her online. Right now rose season is over so everyone seems to be sold out. Watch for Jackson Perkins or this link. This looks a lot like Polka rose but the flowers are paler in color.

Agree! Polka seems to have a little more frill to the petals. I believe Polka is a climber and Princess is a shrub. :0)
