I’m in Phoenix and just bought some Spanish lavender. How delicate should I be? Thx!
@intheglennАй бұрын
If you are not overly confident then just the first inch of the entire plant and you should be totally fine. Just try to make sure you are only cutting into green/live wood. Best of luck!!!

🎉😊 Thank you so much for this review. Is your hydrangeas in full sun all day?
@intheglenn3 ай бұрын
They get full sun until about 2pm. Here in CA that's about all they can take. If you are in a place with less heat then you could probably get away with full-full sun. Hope this helped!

What can I do if the fork doesn't go through the soil? Should I try hand grenades or landmines?

Put a hose out on a trickle and let it sit for a while. This will help break up the first few inches. Continue to do this and it'll break up. Didnt say it wasn't a lot of work!! 😝

Just found this video- so I’m confused…are you adding 6-8” of top soil to it and watering regularly BEFORE you fork it??! My yard is rock hard, used to have sod on it, I couldn’t get a fork or shovel or anything into it right now- I can water…soak for a couple days and then I can scrape away an inch. Too much for this 70 year old! But I really want to plant lavender and others there. So I need soil that drains as well as has some life in it. Suggestions?? Great video, love the humor!😂
@intheglenn4 ай бұрын
Deeply water the hard soil. Even if it's rock hard, just leave a hose at a trickle for 20-30 minutes. Then dump your soil conditioner on top. Get the new soil moist and use that pitchfork to break it all up. It might take time and a lot of effort, but this winter, the rain and worms will break everything up and bring the good soil in deeper. Then in spring, I would repeat this step and slowly over time it will become soil and not dirt.
@JanineSobala4 ай бұрын
Ok- I was going to water deeply and use cardboard and soil/compost - so no cardboard? I thought it would help keep the moisture in. ( we are like 15-20% humidity here) And yes, I can use the soil conditioner. Thank you so much!!

I was born and raised, and live, in San Diego. Not just the county but basically downtown! Or uptown, I suppose…so moving to a little cottage style house in 2012 was an no-brained for me, when I first saw the property, and its front yard, porch, side yard, and curb appeal! I wanted to create a "California cottage garden". And I did! Lol. And obviously a lot of people garden here; I don’t think our location is a hindrance at all to designing a garden. In fact, we have an expanded palette of plants to choose from, compared to traditional British cottage gardens, and much of the northern hemisphere! 🤣 Minus a few more temperate, cooler-climate species, and for those we have just as many suitable replacements. For example, even though we can totally grow _Verbena bonariensis_ in SoCal, an even hardier, evergreen alternative is the orchid genus _Epidendrum_ which flowers in a similar way, and a lot longer. Plus it’s an orchid that can handle sun and grow terrestrially, in well-draining soil. Or instead of certain grasses or leafy species, like _Phormium_ (New Zealand flax), the _Cymbidium_ orchids are a perfect evergreen substitute. And that’s not even counting all the cacti, succulents, tropicals, bromeliads, aroids, etc.!

Hey Keith.....Emily in my garden stuggles with the heat too. We are in the same zone so I'm guessing it is the heat. If you can move her to morning sun and afternoon shade I bet you'll have a better rose. For me, I do not have that option in the my garden :0( Best of luck!!!

@intheglenn5 ай бұрын
Mine is very fragrant....maybe in time yours will become more powerful. I struggle with Emily Bronte and her fragrance. Most people say she has a very strong sent and for me she is weak. I guess it could be placement, watering, feedings. I would suggest more rose feed and if your are in a hot climate maybe water more often. I have had this rose for three years and this year she has been one of my lease productive roses, while in the last two years she was one of my best.

Hell yeah, man. Love the use of fence pickets, they are my favorite! I used them to build my raised beds but never thought to use them for a potting bench! Going to use your re-design for mine and add some locking casters so I can easily move it to clean behind (since I'm a bit of a sloppy gardener). That said, I do think I'm going to try to add the drawers in the original because I really like the idea of storing things like gardening gloves in a drawer so they don't get all wet and nasty. Thanks!
