This was helpful! We're travelling on the Regal soon, hopefully it will work out for us. One suggestion I have for others is take a rubber band, then go get a knife from the buffet and rubber band the HDMI plug to the end of the knife. This has worked for me before on other cruise ships for getting in deep behind the TV.

That is a good suggestion, it is quite fiddly to get to the hdmi socket when it is deep behind the tv, I got there with a lot of patience but using a knife and rubber band would certainly help.

@@aaronbachler9053 We had ours plugged in for days and nobody ever said anything but they are very small. I never saw anything that said not to connect anything to the hdmi on the TV though. I used the mobile hotspot feature on my phone to connect my Roku to the ship's WiFi without needing another account, it just piggybacked to my phones (Google pixel 4a) WiFi connection and worked a treat. Enjoy your cruise.

Ya I was just on Sky and I forgot or re-discovered Bridge Cam will show thru. HDMI 2 will show also thru a movie playing, hit pause, but the pause screen sticks on there. We ended up just watching reruns of Orville. Really sucks how their system works.

Princess has trimmed the TV series selection way down. I wonder if they realize this just drives up video downloading on Medallionet. I come aboard with a few Netflix series preloaded on a Chromebook. Your tip allows us to watch on a bigger screen. Thanks, shipmate! Do hope Princess makes connections more seamless (e g. Casting enabled) rather than less as appears to be their current choice.

Great tip thank you works on Saphire princess . The button at bottom of tv brings up the menu , however it only works when you go to bridge cam. To get to bridge cam is different from video. It is accessible via Movies and TV, then go Live Tv

Unfortunately, on the new discovery princess, this work around no longer works. They changed the bottom button to turn off the tv instead of displaying the menu. We even asked the concierge if accessing the hdmi is possible, they informed us it is not and a decision was made to disable the port as people plugging in their own devices was prematurely wearing out TVs. We left a suggestion for them to attach a short extension that can be easily replaced. Hope they fix this in the future.

Thats such a shame. It would be much better if like some hotels they actually wired up the hdmi port so you could attach your own devices, I don't see why this would not be possible but I guess it might not be used by many people and cost quite a lot to implement.

On the Enchanted Princess in Feb/Mar the ability to change to the HDMI input was eliminated. They still let you switch over to a USB input.

On Regal the HDMI was covered. We could only plug in a thumb drive and that's what I was told the crew did. I had a few movies in h.264 and it played them. Is Sky Princess uncovered HDMI?

Can anyone help? I followed the video instructions. As the last step in adding a Google Chromecast 2 device to the TV, after going through all the setup screens and getting a connection on my Android mobile, the LG TV in the stateroom shows the error message "Check Internet Connection Try restarting your Wi-Fi router or choose a different Wi-Fi network in the Google Home app" (I am connected to MedallionNet Wi-Fi network on my mobile and it works well there). I had the TV in the cabin rebooted remotely by Guest Services. Does anyone have any idea of what I can do or try?

What make and model of Android phone do you have? Does it support wifi sharing? I believe the Google Pixel range and Samsung phones do.

Hi, I have a Samsung S10+ using the latest version of Android 12 which supports the native Google Home app. I have managed to cast from mobile to tv in hotels and on home TV in the past.

Thanks for the helpful video! I noticed there was also a USB input jack on the TV. Was wondering if you tried plugging in a memory stick (usb thumb drive) into this jack to play some of your own pictures? Any thoughts?

It was really tricky to get to so plugging in a memory stick would have been difficult. I did not try it, I only tried streaming using a Roku and Chromecast as these only need to select a HDMI input in on the TV where playing your own movies on a memory stick would I think need more software on the TV to process and play the actual files so I doubt it would work. You could certainly plug in a laptop and play the pictures that way.

Yes, I used my phone to connect to the ships wifi and then create a wifi hotspot for roku. My phone is a Google Pixel 4a.

How did you get the roku on the wifi?

I connected using a WIFI hotspot on my Google Pixel phone, it extended the wifi from the ships internet package included in Princess Plus to my Roku, it worked fine. I think you could have just connected directly to the ships wifi using the dorm/hotel mode on a Roku though, I didnt try that as the wifi hotspot on my phone is usually my go-to method.
