Princess Diana and Sophie

When she was young, she was often compared to Princess Diana, referring to their similarities. But if they were indeed similar in appearance, they both had different fates. Sophie found herself at court at an advanced age, at the time of her engagement to Elizabeth II's youngest son Edward, she was 34. She managed to get the unofficial title of "the Queen's favourite daughter-in-law". Elizabeth spent a fair amount of time with her youngest son's family. No disagreements with Sophie ever surfaced with the monarch or other family members. The reason is one important quality for the Crown, it is the reserved character possessed by the Duchess. The Queen once remarked: "She won't stand out from the crowd". Indeed, the reserved Sophie in comparison with the other two daughters-in-law of Elizabeth, Diana and Sarah seemed ideal. After all, both girls were characterised by a wayward character, were the cause of scandals and eventually divorced from the monarch's sons, Princes Charles and Andrew.

Years ago, not long after they married, I was in the crowd when Edward and Sophie had to dig holes to plant a tree and after Sophie dug her hole she was jokingly dragging her shovel behind her like it was heavy and pretended to wipe her brow while looking at us in the crowd with a cheeky grin. Diana was sure that she would marry Prince Andrew when she grew up. Her family took to calling her Dutch because they were also sure she would marry Andrew and become a Duchess. Once Diana realized that she could actually catch Charles, the chase was on and facilitated by her family. Diana feigned interest in Charles’ interests and hobbies (Balmoral, fishing hunting, etc.)-basically, she pretended to be who Camilla is, a hunting, shooting, fishing, reading country girl. Then as soon as they were on their honeymoon (most of which was at Balmoral), Diana declared each of his interests as borrrring. When the honeymoon moved on to Balmoral she would have have fits of screaming and crying when he wouldn’t do what she wanted when she wanted him to do it (the court was at Balmoral for the summer so there was official business going on and many witnesses). After the honeymoon she proceeded to, one by one, separate him from his friends (he would give in to avoid conflict with her), then his staff (who would quit because she would not look at or speak to those she wanted to leave). In her mind, she loved him, but then attempted to change everything about him, and if he wanted any kind of peace, he would comply. Diana and her family, particularly the Spencers, were very ambitious and misrepresented who she was to the RF, particularly regarding her emotional health & stability. The Spencer’s actually had a bit of a reputation for unstable men (Diana’s mom cited abuse in the divorce), but the RF didn’t think the mental issues affected the Spencer women. Diana actually refused to cooperate with mental health professionals provided by the RF when they realized how unstable she was, and wouldn’t accept mental health help for years (yes, the RF tried to get her professional help) until a friend threatened to out her bulimia to the press because she was afraid it would kill her. And that is just how she treated Charles. As a grown woman she held hostility towards her mother for leaving her abusive father (her mother took Diana & her brother with her but lost custody), pushed her 60 year old stepmother down the stairs (long after Diana married btw), threw her stepmother’s things out the window in trash bags after her father died, fired one staff for claiming expenses with the palace for some trips with Diana (completely legitimate expenses), and fired another who was the currier delivering tapes to Andrew Morten for her for accepting reimbursement from the publishing company. The virginal “Shy Di” persona was completely a creation of a press. A bit like the common impression that the Queen Mother “sweet ol’granny.” Diana admitted to straying first from the marital bed, with her affair that began in 1985 with her protection officer, Barry Mannakee.

(in the same way I recommend you watch the interview) Diana never stopped having lovers, after Mannakee she continued a long list of men, and almost all of them married. Sophie hasn’t let being a Royal and living with the Royals go to her head. She has kept her feet on the ground and is simply genuine from the heart. Her marriage is solid because her husband is as solid as she is and knows how to make good decisions and count his blessings. Their children simply mirror them. They are a good upright family. Sophie knew she would never become a Princess or future Queen of England. She has simply enjoyed her life as a Duchess and is a model for Royals. Character is what she has developed beautifully and Queen Elizabeth II saw there was much to genuinely love about her.

So she was 34 when she came into the family. The other two, Diana was a child married to and old jigalow to have heirs, because his love was married and had children and that was not exceptable! Sarah married Andrew, both were fun loving and lived together separately, abd probably would have still be married except that they were put in such bad light and made a joke of. In real life Diana and Charles would probably never had married and Fergie and Andrew would have lived happily ever after! They are not in the same line of rein Edward lived a different life from the older two!!
