Burrell is BSing about the source. They were a tale spun and recorded by Diana for the express purpose of Andrew Mortin to transcribe/ghostwrite her autobio. Private recordings were never the intention.

Diana secretly gave them to Andrew Morton to use in his book. You can read the march 2004 interview between Colthurst and Norville by googling 'the story behind the princess diana tapes.' The Andrew Morton book is what made diana realise she could gain an audience by the amount of fan mail she received after the book was released.

In the early years you could see that they adored each other. (Unfortunately, Prcs D had Post Natal Depression after H was born (& the Rottweiler couldn't wait to stick her oar in - & Unfortunately, Nicholas Soames (grandson of Winston Churchill, mega old fuddy duddy & general hater of Prcs D) & others really tried v hard to convince K Charles that "the marriage was doomed" - & all of that set managed to edge Prcs Diana out eventually (& she was bewildered by what happened & then found out the Affair had started when H was little - she & K Charles had had problems when she had PND (as many ladies do) but that's the actual Truth. Charles actually did love diana, it's well reported they couldn't keep their hands off each other , diana became rather distant when she realised she was pregnant with william. Her needs were constant for attention, she threw herself down a flight of stairs, then after Williams birth she sought attention in the arms of henry herbert 17th earl of pembroke, this affair continued from 1983 to early 1984, then manakee came on the scene, he gave her plenty of attention, diana calling him the love of her life, when Charles found out about this affair he fell into depression, whereby his body aide went to see camilla to ask her to be a shoulder for him to cry on, then that rekindled the fire. That was in 1986. Shortly after manakees demise diana took up with hewitt, another of those diana claimed to have loved. Diana had many loves of her life!

Diana inadvertently confirmed this and even her early written account of married life did not match her 1990s hitjob version. A year before the Bashir interview, Charles had already owned that his affair resumed with Camilla in 1986 - which documentation etc supports - and said she wasn't going anywhere and obtusely that his marriage was long over/he wanted out. I'm not a proponent of adultery but can understand the extreme mismatch, coordination and unique situation both parties were in. My issue with Di was more her somewhat hypocritically, selfishly unfairly and dishonestly playing victim and pointing fingers when she herself had already been the third in a few marriages. Paul is so full of it here: 1) The draw bridge officially went up on the Charles/Di marriage when Diana took up with her security officer a decade before the Bashir interview. She said what she said of her own free will and was going to grant someone an interview, Bashir just used underhanded tactics to move himself to the top of the list. Her regret was in it not being well received. 2. Diana recorded those tapes with the express knowledge they were to be used in her (auto)biography. She did the same with her acting/speech coach (Peter Settleman). These were not private recordings anymore than QEll conveniently remembering giving you permission to handle Diana's belongings. It is also no coincidence that, in recent years, more Settleman tapes were released along with an updated Mortin/Di book and now these tapes which is where they are coming from, not the millions of dollars of Diana's belongings seized from Burrell's home.

There were a total of 16 mini tapes Diana made for her therapist, (Setelen). Diana took those tapes, gave 10 to Morton, who wrote his book from them, those are the tapes CBN now have, they refuse to say who they acquired the rights from. Paul Birrell had 6 tapes, they were found in a locked box after her death. Paul Birrell took them for 'safe' keeping. The police took them from him. As they were rather explosive, the police still have them, they've agreed not to supply the contents. Setelen has tried to claim ownership, the police have said in their opinion Setelin has the legal right to claim them, but have made an agreement they won't be released. Setelen has claimed patient client confidentiality and has said those tapes should never have been released. Setelin laid claim, as did dianas estate, the Palace, and Andrew Moreton, I don't think Paul Birrell did, can't find any info on that one.

If what Paul says is true, then he should have destroyed them when she died as they served no purpose at that point if they were simply an electronic diary for her to reflect on. If this incident happened, and we only have Diana's word for it, it would be natural for her mother to 'over-react' given her own previous circumstances. Diana's mother [Frances Shand Kydd] had a son who died ten hours after his birth. He was their third child. The first two were daughters. The fourth child was Diana, another girl. Her husband [Diana's father] desperately wanted an heir and sent his wife to a gynaecologist to see what was wrong with her! The father was also know to be violent towards Frances.

If there was only one set then Morton must have returned them for Burrell to have had them. If so, how come Morton still has them. I doubt the police would have returned them to Morton so I think Diana kept her own set.

If Morton does have copies (and i'd suspect he would) then I would imagine that they were also bound by confidentiality as well. I wonder if there is a legal case here? He's probably checked it out before publishing so probably not. either way its incredibly distasteful and immoral to be publishing the recordings of a dead woman when her children and grandchildren are still alive. filthy disgusting in my view.

Lady Colin Campbell has already confirmed that Harry is Charles’ son. Period. I believe a few years ago, someone had said that Diana was in the process of getting rid of Paul, as he was getting too familiar with her. Opening her mail, etc. before she got to read it. But she died before she could follow through. Diana was very like that. Friends with someone for a time & then suddenly would cut them off.

Earl Spenser introduced diana to Martin Bashir, Diana herself undertook to do the interview, she thought she could garner sympathy, it's just that Bashir sought sensationalism and had those false bank statements drawn up by a graphic artist, diana believed him that there was a palace conspiracy, he wanted diana to tip out the palaces dirty laundry. So everyone got played.
