A few weeks after the earthquake hit Japan, I found myself on a plane back to the US and leaving my life behind. I listened to this song on repeat on the 14 hour flight, as I made my own journey to the west

I saw this for the first time when I was probably around 8, and I cried a lot after it ended. And it took me a while before I could watch the movie and not cry. Point is, this movie touched my heart and I wish I could personally thank Miyazaki for all of his creations

There are no words to explain the feeling the music from this movie gives me. It's like comfort, love, sadness, joy, and euphoria all mixed into one. This is the definition of beauty.

Joe Hisaishi's orchestra is great, but in a few ways I prefer this version of "Journey to the West" over his very own. It's been like 10 years and I still stop by this vid to listen. Very well done! I would love to hear this live some day.

I seriously just watched this 6 times in a row. SO beautiful. The only thing better than listening to a fully orchestrated piece is watching the performance at the same time. I love watching orchestras because of the intense emotion they put into their music. This song is SO beautiful.

The movie was even more unbelieveable. Being the harsh movie critic I am, I was utterly STUNNED by the movie. It was magnificant. Anyone who hasn't seen it is missing a huge part. Miyazaki films are always phenomenal.

Hayao Miyazaki movies are just great when it comes to this kinda stuff... (since Princess Mononoke is one of his anyway) I think Howl's Moving Castle has some pretty good stuff, not quite the same, but still good in its own way. By the way, this arrangement is just the best. I was almost in tears the entire time... so powerful!!!

oh ya big time. I play band and he really helps. He tells when you to come in, what beat you are playing, what feeling, when you start, stop, helps when you get lost, brings everyone together if there are gaps in the song, sets the tone, moniters the volume, ensures your pitch, moniters if the song is legato (soft), or is the part is forte (loud). aw man, believe me, he is extremely important. he's the one to bring the band or orchestra together. The keyhole to a lock if you may.

I remember sitting totally entranced the first time I saw this movie in the late 90s. I was a member of an anime club that regularny leased a movie theatre and showed anime that they'd went to Japan and bought, and subtitled. At that time anime had almost no distributors. I thought it was amazing that movies like these didn't get the recognition they deserve in the west. I'm glad now that they do. The message I got from this movie was Be kind to nature and it will reward you.
