Problem with this design (it still works, but might be a problem in a similar design) is that round, cutout between links should be centered on the nubs that link the pieces. As it is now, the cutout does not create the "right" clearance because it pivots separately from that cutout. Man, that was really hard to describe, hopefully you get what I'm saying.

Terrific project and video. What keeps the printer from fusing the tabs into the slots where they touch?

The key is to make sure they don't touch. If you take a close look at the design, each link is it's own body with a clearance spacing keeping it from touching the next link.
