He does not seem to know that T Bills do not have coupon payments but only face value on maturity. Only T bonds have coupons. What CBSL said and announced is they have been engaged on OMO open market operations where they rollover maturing T bills and issue new bills to mop up excess liquidity from Market. Similarly, if CBSL wants to increase liquidity, they stop rolling over and buy T bills from market. OMO money is not given to government so no increase in government debt (I,e, money printing). He is beating the bush for personal gains.
I don’t agree with your SOE POV. Sri Lankan market is too small for few major businesses to compete. It will create a monopoly if government doesn’t intervene.
