For anyone looking to replace this, the Fuser main gear assy is probably the most difficult thing to replace on these machines and if you can replace it you can pretty much do anything on this printer. These are amazing machines that are great to learn on when you're starting out learning how to work on printers. HP really did a good job for 15 years keeping everything relatively the same. Until they made the garbage 608. Great vid. By the way when and if you replace this, make sure you take your time, I used to rush this and it would take me longer to put it back together because I would have to pull it all apart again

He hit the nail on the head, I had to recently revisit a printer for my university and caught this simple error with my own work a week later due to common jams - I just now found this video after researching grinding noises for a different unit. first thing I am checking is the fuser to see how it was seated - also id love to see a video of somebody changing a fuser assembly in 30 minutes - I hear they can take a couple hours if you're good.

Good tip and explanation of a common cause of the fuser drive wear issue. I replaced a drive gear assembly and the printer was just as noisy as before (with a new fuser unit, fully clicked in). There was still a bit of play at the gear side and you could see the fuser move back a 1mm or so during printing. When the fuser was pushed forward during printing, the gear noise went away. I solved it with a large-ish centre punch and a small hammer - one tap on the metal frame retaining tab at the LHS was enough. No more movement at the gear side.

Thanks! The problem I found was a piece of plastic (part of the fuser assembly which covered the gears) was broken and grinding in the gears. Your video help me make quick time finding the problem and replacing the part.

Hey, Steve.....Nicely done; clear, concise. Couple video tips for you; if you need to reference notes or script, have them in front of you, not off to the side. When you look 'off camera' for reference, you loose contact a little bit with your audience. It works well, to even look down,(as if you are thinking), then look back up, into the camera (your audience). Some cutaways to close ups, is also a nice touch. Hope all is going well. Jeff B.

Thanks. I had a similar problem with an M604. I thought it was the duplexer, since pushing the duplexer altered the sound, but I never noticed the fuser was loose. That horrible grinding sound is now gone.

Good stuff, Steve. I've replaced quite a few swing plate assemblies on 42xx/43xx series and have it down to about 45 minutes. Not quite 20-30 though. :)

It takes me about 45 min. to replace the swing plate on a LJ4250. I presume it must be almost the same as the M602. I always thow that it was the quality of the swing plate gears that wasn't good. So it make great sens that's what it causing it. Thanks for the cue.

About 45 minutes to do the M602 but I work on dozens of them at a time when I work for one company. It's all they use around the country. They also install their own PM kits before they ship their machines out. I'm sure they aren't clipping the fusers all the way. It's an easy mistake to make like you described. Now on the 4250's, with the speed trick, 10 minutes is my fastest. Better gears go in and on the fuser. Of course, HP could just fix the problem but than we'd have no work. Scott Corporate Laser

Please, I need help with a Xerox Phaser 6510. I can not find any video on how to disassemble this printer. There was a spill of toner inside the printer, the garbage collector was not replaced in time. I cleaned, I ran a vacuum for all the internal spill but I need to clean the transfer belt and an inaccessible place inside the printer that continues to stain the paper every time it is printed on this printer
