Printing Single Prints with Multiple Layers with a Gelli Arts® Printing Plate!

Watch as Birgit Koopsen shows us how to create multiple layers in one single print! Starting with her 8x10 Gelli® plate, she creates a colorful, light background. She then stamps into the wet paint. Using an darker accent color, she uses stamps to apply interesting colors to the background. She continues to add colors and patterns until she has a colorful print. After she lets the print dry on the Gelli Arts® printing plate, she applies a thin layer of white acrylic paint and pulls the most gorgeous print yet! We had to try this one ourselves, and ended up with art we are proud of.

Instead of adding the third color by brayering from paint on paper, I would get a second plate going in place of the paper. It could be even just the 6 inch square or round, but then... more prints!

I learned so much from this video! I didn’t know that a thin coat and immediate pull at the end is the thing to do. I do wish you would show paint colors/brands. I’m a newbie and am trying to build my stash. Color is important to me and when I see something used that I like I’d like to be able to buy it. I’m sure you guys understand that.

Great technique, but I'm wondering why not do this straight on to the paper - without using the plate? Think I'll try doing both versions & see what the difference is. Must admit, though, that the using the plate is probably more fun, as you're never quite sure what the outcome will be :)

This looked very interesting to try. I went through the process but when it came time to lift the print with the paper, only patches released from the Gelli Pad and the remainder stayed on the pad, so it was an epic fail :) Do you know why this might have happened? I had a base layer of rolled on colour, then stamps and stencils in various colours on top of that. It dried between some of the colour applications, and it was dry when I added the transparent mixing white. Thanks for any assistance!

What I've learned is acrylic dry quickly you have to work with them in a timely fashion that might have been part of your problem the acrylic dry before you made the print

Posca pen's are good. You get them in different nib sizes and colours. My ultimate favourite for adding details on a finished print is Signo hybrid white gel pen. It really shows up as not all white pens do.
