I love how you do a little hop to get all your petticoats in order. But what is just the best is to see how happy your dresses make, like in this video where you say “I love this dress!” and are so happy through the rest of your video. I love that feeling. It’s so special. It’s so wonderful you get it and share so much of it with the rest of us.

jaunty adjective Having or expressing a buoyant or self-confident air. Sprightly; lively. Stylish. I'd say you meet all qualifications for jaunty. Love the rich jewel tones and detailing and how she brings it to life with the rock climb and twirls. Shows they were not the stiff repressive set pieces of pictures but active garments on dynamic women.

This can be said of many eras ...industrialism and low- payed factory labor into the early 1900's,1970's drug abuse ,1980's,90's,00's denial of stay at home moms, inhibition of reproductive rights , and so on... Puritans and Quakers/Shakers generally contradictory to wasteful opulent extravagant shows of clothing,but even these were more suited to European weather rather than north american. Organic clothing still shows more considerateness even nowadays.

@vbrown64452 жыл бұрын
I really loved the color and detailing of this gown. And it looked lovely on you, as always. The fashion plate with the original design also showed a model in a two-piece gown, which as you noted was more versatile. I wonder if one style was more popular than the other (1-piece vs 2-piece), or if they were equally popular during this period.
@davidhutchison33432 жыл бұрын
Generally, 2 pieces were a lot more common around this time. In fact they were 3 piece outfits, with 1 skirt a day bodice and an evening bodice. This increased the versatility of the garment. However, with Princess seamed garments becoming popular (more so in the 1870's) dresses, as distinct from skirts and bodices, started to become the norm. It would be the 1890's before separates became popular again.
@meacadwell2 жыл бұрын
@@davidhutchison3343 Agreed with everything you said except for the separates becoming popular in the 1890's. The cuirasse bodice was popular from the 1870's through the 1880's.

@marthabenner65282 жыл бұрын
I should have said or. When I fit them right I will be wearing a corset "or" stay most everyday. Mostly because they are comfortable and fitting bras are difficult to find. But it's really so the lines of my dress sit right. The difference between my t-shirt dress making me look frumpy and fat, or really elegant, is a corset. While my ill-fitting corset actually adds a few inches to my waist I look skinnier with it on. my ill-fitting corset is not uncomfortable in the least, it just doesn't have enough bust support.

@biblicallyaccuratecockroach2 жыл бұрын
I'm guessing the most important part is storing them in a clean and dry place to avoid them getting smells from storage, or moisture which will eat away at EVERYTHING, even the closet they're stored in. Carefully folded (this is pre-coathanger era I believe) and taken out to air at least once a year, to not let it let stinky from disuse and to check if there's moth holes or places needing patching, and also to remind yourself what you have and can wear. Possibly separating by material? Wools from silks and such, I don't know if there's any problem in storing them together.
@Smithpolly2 жыл бұрын
@@biblicallyaccuratecockroach I imagine they are being stored in a way that means the chances of moths getting at them are minuscule. I think it would be pretty soul destroying to find moths holes in that skirt.
