I love Northern Pacers! Always helps so much to have pacers on the run. I wouldn''t worry about a few seconds off Nicola, you still helped the runners around you.

Thanks Geoff, it's the worst feeling though 😭 but I really appreciate your kind words 🤗 they definitely help ☺️

There's two parts to pacing, the experience of the pacer and the accuracy of the GPS signal and mile/km markers. You only have full control over one of those, so well done on getting so close despite the hurdles! Had a few bad experiences with some parkrun pacers in the past down to their lack of experience (going off much faster than they should & one even overtaking faster pacers!) so it's always nice when you find yourself behind someone who knows what they're doing!

Awww thanks, yes it's definitely tempting to dash off and bank a load of time and slow down at the end but that's not really pacing is it! 🙈🤣 I do see why people want to do that though as it is horrible being over! Nevermind, it's all part of it I guess! Anyway, thanks for giving me perspective, much appreciated 🙏🏻😊

Don't fret about it Nic, 10 seconds is nowt. Just blame it on the extra weight of bugs you carried round on your face 😊. You did, and always do an amazing job. 😌

When you said you messed up I was waiting for some major problem and you being minutes over! 10 seconds is understandable, don’t beat yourself up! (Although I say this knowing full well if it were me I would also be annoyed with myself, so… 😂)

For me as an experienced pacer, I have pre race homework to do. If practical, I run back on the route, as a warm up, ideally 1 km but minimm 500m, and find my 200m, 500m. 1km to go markers myself. Needless to say the dedication is reflected in the results.

Can't imagine anyone is expecting to the second pacing on undulating trail courses like this, there are so many variables in play. Getting within 0.5% is pretty impressive. Surely nobody's picking this event to aim for a 10k PB! In other news, Oakwell Hall parkrun's 10th birthday celebration yesterday had Yorkshire puddings with jam and cream at the finish! 😍😋

Awww thanks, yeah good point... It's not a PB course but still, I should have done better 🙃 So... Explain to me how this works?! Jam?! Was it nice? I'm confused 🤣 Also... 10th birthday how?! 🤯🤯🤯

Ok a first for me, seeing you not happy. That was a lot of disappointment for 10 seconds. Yeah it's tough if you're aiming for a sub something and you miss it by seconds but come on if the margin is that close you shouldn't complain. At least weeks parkrun I was 3 seconds over 25 mins but should have run harder but, like you, I just didn't feel it that morning. Nostalgia moment: I haven't been to Nostell Priory since 1984. As a boy I spent the August bank holiday weekend at their rock festival, headliners included The Damned and Marrilion. Oh to be young and carefree.

Don't beat yourself up too much, Nicola, especially when the markers have been placed for a one-off race. I would have thought a time within 30 seconds over 10km on a flat course was good and within 15 seconds was excellent. When you add undulations into the equation, its exceptional.

I live on the coast and on flying ant day the sky was full of seagulls... So so full, like a ceiling of gulls.. I hadn't realised there were flying ants as it was early so I was a bit freaked out for a few mi utes, wondering if the world was ending (as you do) 😂

Another cool run Nicola. I always wondered how the pacers did their thing when the course comes up long / short. If the mile marker was off, I wouldn't blame yourself too much. It happens. Definitely some cool, old timey buildings as well (our older buildings are from the late 1800s / early 1900s). You've got too much history over there! I would also love some 23C weather (our weather has been hitting 33C - 35C for day time temps) Also, do they have age group awards at races like that in the UK? For a race that large it looked like only the top 3 in each gender got an award (most races here have age group awards in 5 or 10 year increments). Wondering if the masters and well into the masters had a shot at an award.
@NicolaRuns
@NicolaRuns 4 ай бұрын
Yes there definitely were more awards but in the interest of not having a super long video then I just filmed a few of the men's and a few of the women's 🤗 The weather got much hotter here after I filmed this. I should have been grateful for the 24! Although it's not been as hot here as it is there. That must be hard to run in! 😳
@runningoneddie

@@NicolaRuns It is reasonable in the morning here -- maybe upper 60s(F) to low 70s(F). So I am usually out before the sun rises. I've tried running late in the day and it is still very hot (90+F) and it disrupts my sleep. So once June hits, I am up before everyone else to get my miles in.

Not you messing up pacing Nicola, if the K's are out, youve got no chance. Was trying to do the maths when you went past 5K and came through the first lap with 400m to go. Northern Pacers always do a cracking job

If the organisers get the km markers in the wrong place then they can't expect the pacers to be accurate, as obviously they will be using the km markers to calculate their time.
