Thank you for clarifying lots of things here. I've been looking for a local solution for playing digital music. I do have a computer (and rip CDs) but don't have nor want a network. I'll keep looking, but if I do succumb and go the network route, your product (NP5) is top of the list.

It is pretty easy to set up a local area network to stream from a NAS (network connected self-powered hard drive), and you don't even need to connect it to the internet if security is a concern. But then again, when a network player is connected to the internet there is simply a dazzling array of music available on line that can sound truly great - and far beyond my wildest imagination when I was first introduced to the future potential of digital recording 45 years ago now, Terry
