I don't know if I'm missing this part of the video, but just throwing it out there for anyone else that gets stumped like I did. For this to work, you have to set your material's Blend Mode to "Masked" to access the Opacity Mask. Oh! Genuinely amazing content btw. I'm only a month or two into my UE5 humble beginnings and your content is easily one of the best I've found so far. Even the official tutorials by UE are trash compared to your explanations. I very much appreciate your style and have subbed! Cheers!

Combine it with the Per Instance Random and the foliage won't all disappear simultaneously. That way you should be able to spread it out a bit to make it even more subtle :)

this is what i did for my grass, but also shifted the grass down partly through the landscape with world position offset and the blend is so smooth it's like magic :D

this channel should deserve more supports and not that nonsense channel out there. when you teach random folks it is considered a share of knowledge and that should be considered valuable.

Question from someone still learning. Is this per-instance culling only possible with a HISM? Or is it done with an ISM in this video? Ta. Awesome vids btw. Aussie accents always make the most charming KZbins. :D
@PrismaticaDev2 жыл бұрын
I'm not sure if it works with HISMs - this is primarily used for the Foliage tool and Landscape Grasstypes, since they have an in-built culling distance variable
@danstrike66872 жыл бұрын
@@PrismaticaDev Ah ok ty. I have read that the Foliage tool already uses HISMs, but I don't know for sure myself.
@PrismaticaDev2 жыл бұрын
@@danstrike6687 Ah yeah it might use it internally. Honestly I have no experience with HISMs myself yet hahaha

How did you do the foliage interaction ? After you collide the tall plants there are some feedback animation which make it more natural n realistic.

Thanks a lot for this great tuto, and what about Translucency? I have seen in an UE4 forum, saying translucency does eats fps. Is that TRUE?
@morganlak43372 жыл бұрын
Yes, it's very difficult for the renderer to properly sort translucent objects that overlap each other, which makes them terrible for foliage. The Masked type material works great though
@Hawkena2 жыл бұрын
Hi, but what about an object without an opacity mask like a rock or geometry grass? Thank you.
@manafon53982 жыл бұрын
You just have to turn it from opaque to Masked and do exactly as the video suggests, the cost of masked materials isn't that big of a deal, Transparency in my experience is when you should start to consider if a graphical feature is worth it or not.
