I been there done that..as a longtime veteran of the Corrections field, This is a necessary requirement in order to possess OC pepper spray/stream canisters for use in the facility. It is worth the pain, because the officer knows the effects of the OC and can use this tool if needed to take control of a potentially violent situation. Good Stuff!!

I agree, getting hit in the face with oc sucks!!! I had that training when I was in the Marine Corps. After I got sprayed I had to wrestle two guys, then run an obstacle course and fire my 9mm. I only hit 2 out of 5 targets haha

If an officer does not take a direct shot of OC; then they have NO reason to complain. Big difference between direct and indirect.

That training certainly was a joke. We had to take a full blast in the face, fight off an attacker while protecting our weapon, unlock a car, and make a radio call. Oh...and we don't get to carry OC during normal duty inside the prison. The water and wind helped relieve the burning temporarily, but only a good night's sleep really cured the burning for me. Getting sprayed was the easy part.

End prohibition, and stop making criminals out of potheads! No pothead should have to go to prison for possessing a harmless plant. Every prisoner that goes into prison, comes out an even harder criminal.

@medicalterrylove2 Remember prohibition? Why do you think we ended it? This is no different. Prohibition CREATES criminals. People are in the black market based on prohibition. End prohibition, you end the black market, and you stop sending pot heads to prison for victimless crimes, where they come out as hardened criminals. You need to get educated. Pick up a history book.

Even thought I agree with you I dont agree that pot is harmless. Pot needs to be treated like how we treat beer. Allow only adults the freedom to smoke pot and pay taxes.

With eighteen months in a community college, you could retrain for something. I think there are Associates degrees in Criminal Justice. If you couldn't find work as a Police Officer, certainly there are many possessions in private security. Don't tell any would be employer what you've been doing. Tell them you've been unemployed or you've been in school. After all, do you want to spend the rest of your working life behind bars?

Understanding the criminal mind is difficult, but psychology has come a long way, and criminologists are mostly agreeing. But politically it's almost impossible to change a system like in USA, so the "right way" doesn't really matter that much since the masses want something else.

That's why people directly affected shouldn't be the ones to pass laws, since their motif is likely revenge related - and most legal systems agree that a legal system based on revenge is not a good thing.

A quick Google search led us to the likely basis of such a figure. In a Dec. 27, 2011, press release, the National Conference of State Legislatures said U.S. states and territories passed more than 40,000 bills and resolutions into law in 2011. Yet, the release also said, laws do not always take effect at the start of a year.

I'd like to know your sources for that figure of 60,000 new laws a year. In 2011, 90 bills were enacted into law. 2012? 61. I'm pro decriminalization of effectively any recreational drug myself, but coming up with sensationalist numbers and lying to seem to have the moral high ground over our "oppressive" government is quite frankly moronic. There are a variety of factors that go into whether someone breaks the law; primarily environmental factors and personal choice. Not so much unfair laws.

Prison Guards are people who voluntarily get up an go into prison each day! Look at the assortment of new recruits in this vid. A large number are single moms, men that couldn't meet the height requirement for the Police department, the fat, high school dropouts. They're made up largely of the type of people they guard. In many instances private security pays a better wage. Unlike police officers, they can't kill, they can only beat inmates. Perhaps that is enough.

You would be guessing. Why is the truth degradation? These are some of the few low skill jobs left in country. There isn't that many doctoral candidates going into corrections. Inmates acquire few applicable skills in prison, neither do correction officers. Deciphering the mysteries message on the toilet paper has few applications in the outside world. Its the disenfranchised guarding the disenfranchised. You can find the marijuana stash, or the popsicle stick honed to a point. Great!

You sound like you are still relatively young. Perhaps you should sit down and do the math. To remain with your employer through the length of an average career would mean spending more than a third of your life behind bars. This is a much longer sentence than many of the inmates you'll guard! Of course it's which side of the bars you're on but according to what you've written here, that's not much! Maybe this could be something you've done while learning to do something else.
