I saw a woman sentenced to 30 years for holding a pound of meth (in Texas). She obviously deserved punishment for holding a POUND OF METH! But 30 years?? She's now in her 5th year of incarceration, finished her GED, attends church every Sunday and spreads the word to anyone who will listen to stay away from dope. She's already served 5 years so tell me (with a straight face) why her serving another 20+ years does anybody any good? Also, her children are growing up without a mother...

In the outside world, one might not have time to study (work, TV, snacks, going out, etc.). But in prison, however, one has nothing BUT time! All the distractions that are so prevalent in the outside world simply aren't there.

I did 7 years in prison and was released when i was 23. Since then my name was on the Presidents list for making all A's and having a 4.0 GPA. I have earned my AAS Degree in Computer Information Systems Technology, Certificate of Proficiency in Computer Programming, Certificate of Proficiency in Web Design ( Designed Web Site for the city ), and a Microsoft Office Certificate. I put my resume on Monster and 2 company's called in one week. I have a DBA job offer so think I will take it.

Sad to say my uncle did 2 years in prison for multiple DUI's. When he was released he was 10 times worse. Tatted up everywhere, and just had a fucked up mind state. Needless to say I haven't seen him in years though.

Education about life, violence/other HS or college subjects, job training all well worth it. People that don't want their state to fund these or other programs are mis-guided. Also reward good behavior with more freedoms. Use more psychological counseling, one-on-one or group therapy, medication or anything to treat psychosis and lessen violence during their stay and if they get out.

There's more drug addicts and drug dealers in prison than murderers and rapists. Most of the people incarcerated are in prison for nonviolent offenses.

No, that was most of the rest of my family, including one that spent two terms in a state penitentiary.

Your absolutely right, we do worship these kinds of people. We view deviance as something cool and interesting, not as something grotesque and despicable. How are we to show our children violence and sex in the theaters and on our television screens without facing the repercussions. We definitely worship rappers and businessmen, and thats because we have lost our values and principles. We're pretty much a nation made up of greeds, predators, and stupids, with a small dose of intelligents.

@tellpipe11 And dont forget there is an alarming increase in private "for profit" prisons being opened by private corporations. They even have lobbyists, lobbying for stricter laws and more enforcement to increase prisoners populations that ultimately equals profits to them.

I agree with you OurBleuTube some people have no sense! Unless you have had a loved one in prison or been there yourself you really have no idea the confusion, anger and pain a place like that can cause.
