I was in for a misdemeanor at one point due to one of the episodes of my own mental illness, and another time for a probation violation, in which I failed to notify my probation officer of my out of state railroad employment. Both times, I was in with those who committed crimes from aggravated assault with deadly weapons, to one murderer that was only just brought in, after being discovered in a 20 plus year long investigation. All the inmates of said offences in my block were surprisingly kin like to me and as long as none of us disrespected each other and the CO's treated us with all just the same, nobody really had much of any issue on either side and I made it pretty smoothly up to my court date in which the judge thankfully saw I was trying and let me get back to work with reinstated probation. Only got one more year to go till I'm off the hook for good.

The bus ride and shackled to another stranger and having to go to the restroom in a bus that's moving shackled to another person . But the most memorable moment getting to hobby unit ... they make 60 inmates stand against wall in lines all around the walls . Then strip and stand there naked one by one bending down opening your ass and your kitty lips lmao . Then getting powder thrown on u and taking a nasty ass cold shower . Then the fun of them yelling to get ur shit . Your cot all ur scrubs then having to carry it to ur dorm and if you let it touch the floor you have a guard in ur face screaming and making everyone go back and start all over . Then how they believe prison is rehabilitating I went in with some stupid charge and came out with a criminal degree on how to break the law even worse . Meeting new connects wow and if u want the truth the guards are the ones that bring a contraband in . And have no shame in there actions and say ur the idiot that caught cuz ur stupid . But we are the criminals . Women got raped by guards at night and basically could get away with unimaginable acts . Then the tdc does not separate the medically sick contagious inmates from gen. Population . It's fun .. so much fun .

I really enjoyed this. Respect to you as a fellow Englishman doing 4 days in an American prison voluntarily. I did a week on remand in the early 90's in a Victorian prison in Yorkshire. It was still slop out back then. It was not a pleasant experience and I was in my early 20's. I would struggle to do a long sentence as I have a low tolerence of sharing a confined space with anyone except my girlfriend and I need to doing different things and I hate been stuck in one place. Food, bed and clothing are also shocking and I struggled with these too.

I’ve been to jail around July, got arrested in mesquite, but transferred to Dallas county jail. 1 whole month locked up in jail, was mentally exhausting. As a person who has to be moving and doing something it was literally hell for me, I cried 4 times during jail, my cell mate was the best (nicest person I’ve ever met in jail, in general everyone was nice, kinda was expecting the worst however everyone cared about others health) he was trying his best to console me and calm me down when I almost had a mental breakdown due to be locked up and it being my first time getting in trouble. It is the worst for someone who has to be busy….because you don’t do anything other than, eat, sleep, and watch tv or listen the other inmates yell.

I spent 2023 locked inside a cell over at Tarrant county correctional facility in Fort Worth Texas. You have to adapt to it or you’ll be one of the few who’s time will go by extremely slow. I seen a bit of everything while there. I was sent all over the jail due to getting in trouble. I ended up in 59A. I was locked up with nothing but murderers. I was one of the few who didn’t have a murder or capital murder charge in there. I was facing a little bit of time but nowhere near 25 to life to even life with out parole like mostly everyone else. Me knowing that I was going to go home and still live my life with out losing it to the system is what kept me going. You can’t lose your mind in there because in jail/prison your mind is all you have.

As an American I can say it is true that our Jail and Prison systems in the entire US are dystopian compared to the ones in some European countries like Germany, Finland, Norway and Switzerland. Our justice system isn't actually a justice system, it's a legal system that is faulty in so many ways. This is a system that is more interested in putting someone behind bars for smoking a herb than it is in putting dangerous criminals behind bars. I actually had to take a break from this video when it showed the guy crying, it disgusted me how a man who simply had weed on him is being treated in the same way a violent offender should be treated. It's infuriating how non violent offenders are paired with violent offenders. Speaking of mental illness, people with mental illness are already being neglected by society as is, just imagine the suffering they have to go through in a jail or prison here in the US. There are so many cases of mentally ill inmates being abused by prison guards(They don't deserve to be called correctional officers because they don't act like it) and other inmates and nobody seems to care. Here in the US the mentally ill are the one marginalized group of people who can say that they aren't just being neglected, they are also being persecuted by an unjust system that doesn't view them as equals. Our system is is more interested in punishing people with mental illness than it is in helping them. The fact that man 11 minutes into the video had to keep his conditions secret shows just how marginalized the mentally ill are in the US. Technically the 8th amendment(No cruel or unusual punishment) is supposed to prevent all this but law enforcement is notorious for constantly using loopholes to bypass our constitution. They like to say they are "just bending the rules" but in reality they are bending the rules so much that fissures are starting to show. The elephant in the room are the many innocent people who are behind bars. There are estimated to be thousands of innocent people behind bars here in the US because our incompetent legal system failed them. All because of law enforcement that doesn't peace the puzzle together, corrupt law enforcement, biased jurors, biased judges and the list goes on. What's disgusting about this is that there are people who don't care about the fact that there are innocent people stuck behind bars. Furthermore we have people who get wrongly arrested for simply acting in self defense even though laws like the castle doctrine and stand your ground are supposed to protect the citizen who acted in self defense from any kind of legal problems. As someone who believes in the right to act in self defense, it always infuriates me when I see on the news that somebody got wrongly arrested for acting in self defense. As Americans we like to think that our country is "number 1" in the world but at the end of the day that is all propaganda, our country is definitely not number 1. Perhaps we may be number 1 in military might but when it comes to society, the people are constantly having their rights and liberties infringed upon by a compromised legal system. Don't get me wrong I love my country and it is this love for my country that makes me critical of our legal system and authorities(both local and federal). And I don't consider myself to be either conservative/Republican or Liberal/Democrat as I think both sides are part of the problem. While it's true that the "powers that be" are the problem, so are the people who support them with sycophancy.

Ive been locked up in this jail countless times when I was younger and even spent 2 years there waiting on trial once. I also did 8 years in the Texas Dept of Criminal Justice(Texas prison). I was a wild youngster. I've been straight and narrow and out of jails for over 15 years now. Married, two kids, own my first new home, etc. People always ask me what it's like being in jail. I always tell them, imagine the dumbest most mentally and emotionally immature person that you've ever met in your life, now imagine being stranded on a deserted island with a thousand people just like him. That's prison. When you're in prison and get to know the people who found their way in there, you quickly understand why the recidivism rate is so high. You also quickly realize that no education and no father in the home are the two biggest common denominators in inmates. If you want to drastically reduce your kids chances of ending up in jail, the two biggest things you can do is to make sure they stay in school and actually try, and to be a present and active father in their lives. It really is the root cause of 90% of inmates.

The crime doesn’t make a fk. It could be trespassing and you can sit 2 years for a trial because the court systems are backed up. These ppl are arrested and if they don’t make bond, then they sit until their trial which can be years. If they never take a deal with the DA bcuz they’re innocent, they could sit longer than their actual sentence would be. So much for a “quick and speedy trial” the bill of rights guarantees us.

Reggie is a good man for creating this Documentary, I my self unfortunately have been in the Bexar County Jail and I must say this is a place that there officers need alot more than. They say. Because you have many inmates in there they have alot of Mental Issues alot of Health issues. And well people who go in here that are in good mental and physical health believe me you alot of people when they get out they only get worse. The officers are very disrespectful they don't understand that they are people just like they are and they will act like they are better than you. The officers really don't screen people very well and they are so fast to believe the other person story and not ask you what happened. I can understand why people get so upset with them. I remember there was someone I was in there with and it was a misdemeanor Assault. He told me he and his girlfriend where at a Burger King on Walzem they where talking and he liked to talk with his hands and that time the chain on his blanket caught on her hair and he moved his hands up and her face accidentally hit the table. And then my self my wife and I where arguing and I Tossed a sleeping bag and the zipper touched her cheek. And that's when they arrested me in 2019. Another time we argued it was night I was wanting to get to sleep. She wanted the bedroom lights on I wanted them off. There was no sign of assault nothing out of place no holes no damages no scars nothing to get a domestic violence charge all they had was her word and they arrested me that time. Goes to show these officers need alot more training than what they have. And I really prey they get Javier Salazar Out of office and put in someone as sheriff with more knowledge and they need to get Chief William McManus out of office as well both of them are hurting this wonderful city we live in. So Reggie I hope your Documentary helps.

My son is in a Prison in Texas for a issues extending from his mental disabilities that escalated during COVID 19 timeframe. There is a lot that happened from 2018 - 2021 that aided in his instability. It started with a 6 month sentence, to a bootcamp that went to a 2 year sentence in the juvenile system, to a 2.5 year stay in an adult prison right before he turned 18. My child was all of 5'6 weighing 130 lbs at the most. The funny thing is that the inmate can refuse medication in prison but can't in a residential treatment center. They do not get to see a psychiatrist on a regular basis. For example if they are doing group session & one person don't show up, the session is cancelled for all inmates, but is listed as given a session. In the state of TX it is not your intent that gets you in jail. It is whether a person "feels" that their life was at risk. For instance you can have a fake gun & point it at someone with no intent to harm them; but because they believe their life was at risk you can get several years in prison. That is exactly what happen to my son. His deteriorating mental state & break down of his family caused him to make bad decisions & gravitate toward even worst people that landed him in juvie. Because he couldn't stop fighting in prison pushed him to adult prison. The original medical recommendation of the juvenile system for my son was that if he did not get all the mental medical help he needed by going to a residential treatment facility that could handle all his mental issues, he would continue to spiral out of control & he did but this was not weighed as proof that he should have been placed in a residential treatment facility but it was used against him to push him further in the prison system.
