In 2008 our cameras went inside a maximum-security juvenile prison to document the stories of kids serving time in one of America's largest juvenile prisons. Jacob, Mike and Adam were all locked up inside the same prison but each had had very different lives on the outside. Our cameras spent weeks inside documenting their daily life behind bars, their challenges and their dreams, and ultimately, tracked down how things turned out for each boy as we looked into their lives 16 years later.

I kind of saw Adam not doing well after he yelled at his grandmother. I’m sorry to hear that it didn’t turn out well for him.

Kid's grandparents remind me of my grandparents. They never gave up on me. They loved me when I didn't even deserve their love. I miss them both so much. They taught me never ever take the ones in your life for granted. Make sure you hug them and tell them how much you love them everyday because they could be gone the next. You you just never know..

God damn Adam what is up with all of the high speed pursuits with the latest one in February of this year? Oh by the way your mugshot looks ridiculous! It is sad that Nathan Brady is doing 1 - 20 years in prison for dealing drugs and that Brandon Cox had turned his life around

I always wondered why is called Calamari productions. Is calamari produced, processed, packaged and shipped from juvenile detention centers? I love calamari but ai have heard that not all calamari is real squid! Sometimes the make it out of pig rectum. Look it up! 🤷🏼‍♂️No joke.

@DaveWhiteInYoFace - ha! No, no sea creatures made or packaged here! The name comes from our company owner, who has a family story behind it. Long story (kinda) short: She comes from a humble background, and when she was a kid back in the 70s, her mom and dad would save enough money every few summers and drive the family to Florida. Since the family didn't have money to travel the world, her mom would encourage her and her siblings to try at least one new food while they were on vacation for the week. Everyone in the family at some point took the bold step of trying calamari. Not her. She thought it looked disgusting and she didn't want to eat an octopus! It became a family joke that she'd never, ever touch a bite of squid. 20 years later after her parents both died of cancer, she decided to start her own little production company. When trying to come up with a company name, she decided to use the initials of her young children, her mom, her dad, etc. Low and behold it started to spell out the word calamari! If that wasn't a sign, we don't know what is! And THAT is how Calamari Productions came to be 26 years ago. Thank you for asking!! :)

I was 18 in am adult prison in Ohio. I would've done anything to have been in a juvenile facility and had the rest of my life not ruined. I was 18 and caught a charge 1 month after my birthday and now I'm a felon for the rest of my life. Inwas attacked by multiple people with golf clubs. Because the golf clubs were never taken into evidence, self-defense wasn't an option in ohio. The fact that 9-11 people were attacking me and the vehicle I was leaving didn't matter. My window was busted out, I was hit in the face and ran someone over. I had no idea I'd run someone over until I went to the police station that night. The police didn't arrest me and said the other party was the aggressors. The state of Ohio didn't see it that way, and I was charged with attempted murder. In the end, I pled guilty to an aggravated assault. They spent over $50,000 on a lawyer, and I had $3,500. They had a defense attorney, but they were the plaintiffs. The system in Cleveland, Ohio, is very crooked, and all they care about Is money. They locked me up and got their money. They could care less that they ruined my life instead of finding out the truth. If I chose to try and fight my charges, I was looking at 15-20 years. Pleading out to the aggravated assault I was only looking at a year. I was told I was going to get probation, but the judge didn't like that and decided to give me the year to set an example as she said. I think the age of consent should be 21 in the US. You can't buy cigarettes or alcohol but you can fight and die in war. You can vote but can't smoke cigarettes. It's an absolute joke. They need to make the age of consent 21 and allow people that were in trouble before 21 to have their records sealed and / or expunged. I haven't been in trouble since 2006. I'm 37 now. It's been almost 18 years since I've been in any kind of trouble, and it doesn't matter at all. Over something I did when I was 18 years old. It makes me sick that they can ruin someone's life and expect you to somehow turn your life around when 90% of decent jobs won't give you an opportunity because you were in trouble when you were 18 years-old. Living in Cleveland ohio is hard enough without the felony. Having it makes surviving ,paying bills, and having a better life damn near impossible. I'm figuring it out, but I work 7 days a week, and I never get to do anything for myself. Without the felony I could make 30-$40,000 more a year. That would change mine and my families life. They could care less. The law is the law. Rules are the rules. It's not fair, and it needs to be changed. We need to stop letting kids go to war and vote at 18. Change the legal age of an adult to 21!

@robertbragg9364 - your story helps people see how quickly life can change at such a young age. You also bring up very valid issues. The legal age of 18 is counter intuitive to what all the research shows...that the juvenile brain isn't fully developed until well into the 20s. While it might not excuse bad behavior, it does give us a window into how kids often do impulsive and sometimes terrible things. That felony on a record closes so many doors, and if it happens when you're young, there are still a lot of years ahead of paying for that juvenile mistake. We really appreciate you watching this video and taking the time to comment.

Robertbagg9364- you can lie to yourself but shouldn't lie to others on these platforms. There are enough holes in your story that anyone with half a brain would see daylight on the other side. You did what you did. You pled to lesser crime. Own it and be on your way.
