This has got to be the worst Prisoner era ever. (I've been watching for the first time since episode 1). If worse is yet to come I'll give up now...ah, no I won't. It's all part of the great panoply that is Prisoner I guess...but my word, Daphne, Willy, the dread Nora...and Terri, what a cow. First she opens Joan's mail, now she 'surprises' her with her bloody parents! It's all cringe-makingly tedious...how much more of this can we take?

Daphne isn't too bad compared to the others...Even Chook gets a bit on my nerves with the "oh no, I'm stupid" all the time. You have Marie Trevor the producer to thank. As soon as she came in, Prisoner went down in ratings and clearly trying hard to rescue it hence the Ballinger storyline. Its about the only good story they came up with and couldn't think of anything until the final episodes!

LittleMissJmoo Moo Yeah, sadly Marie Trevor stayed as producer from episode 495 to episode 692. I wish she hadn't been producer because I didn't really enjoy her era of the 500's (and what I have seen of the 600's) and it was that exact era of Prisoner (the 500's) that I first saw on ITV (the Carlton London region of ITV) back in 1996. Although, there were some skippable characters and storylines in other eras of Prisoner as well, after watching it on Channel 5, on KZbin and on DVD, but I still liked those eras a little bit more than some of the present time and afterwards up to the last episode, 692.

@Sandy People have the right to watch it even if it gets on their nerves. They are watching this to the finish because they have invested a great deal of time to watch it and they are simply airing their viewpoints as they watch and I am glad that they point out the things that they don't like because I give them a thumbs up if I agree because I feel the same way. So we have the right to watch regardless of how poor the storyline is. It is a good way to vent and we expect better for what we watch. I almost bought this box set and now I am glad that I didn't because of how poor the writing is after 250 episodes. It is good that the comments are honest. So it is not easy to say "stop watching" because most people are finishers, it's like reading a book.Just because you like the first half doesn't mean you'll like the second half but people will keep reading or watching to see how it ends.

According to several cast members they worked very long hours and made two episodes a week. I think they had to be on set at seven in the morning and were sometimes there for twelve hours, even more with riot episodes. They were all exhausted and the sets were freezing cold. No wonder they wore the pajamas and long dressing gowns and cardigans.

I love this show but after 500 episodes they repeat old stories and bring back actors to play new roles, like Terry Malone was Sharon who was murdered by a male screw. The Salvation army gut that helped Birdsworth came back to kill a little girl with his car and in return was killed by her Mother in a car. The Psychologist that brought her cat to work came back as a transferred inmate from Barnhurst. Only to mention a few!

Capt. Barton killed an old man by running over him then the old man’s daughter ran over Barton. He got up then a truck hit him and killed him.
