When I mentioned at work that I was watching Prisoner again. A colleague said "Again?!! You only watched it about 3years ago." He couldn't believe that I run through it every 3-4 years. There are so many episodes it's impossible to remember everything so it's never repetitive. It's also interesting how I react differently to characters since the previous time I watched it. This was mind blowing the first time I saw it on ITV I was up late by chance and after getting hocked on earlier episodes and seeing Bea being reduced to tears by the Freak . It was a massive gear shift to see a full episode with all out action for a teenage lad and DC commics junkie . The Freak waking was a real jolt ti to the senses - I think they even went to a comercal break straight after Beas attack ,. I thought the freak was gone for good and up to that point the most scariest villain on TV, The writers made her less menacing over time and more decent in many ways almost an anti hero so her conflict with Rita never had the same edge as these early Freak episodes and her battles with Bea. Not knowing who would survive after was unbearable . As the following episode was on a Sunday and it was bed by eleven for School the next morning . I even tried to read through the TV times in the hope it would get give me further info but all I saw was Ian Smiths name on the cast listing ( -I envisoned him playing a colourful hobo at Judy's half way house not Mr Douglas the head of the Dept the cast listing just said Mr Douglas )I thought that was odd as he was famous for being on Neighbours a family show . At the time Prisoner seemed very grown up and action orientated in comparison to daytime soaps . Prisoner was a grave yard series at the time ITV seldom put it on before the small hours and there was no social media to deduce plot lines . I can not explain the excitement of watching something like this back in the day of four channels and no internet . My heart was pounding on the way to bed and I was remonating about the whole episode the next day but could not tell anybody about it as I did not want my olds to know I'd watched Prisoner . By the end of 1991 when I could watch Prisoner freely and it was mainstream I was well disappointed when the final episode of the entire series was nothing like this cracking episode . As I'd been anticipating an explosive ending two years . I was well gutted at the more poignant moralising end to the show This episode was first screened in 1989 on Central TV. By the time Prisoner finished up on Central TV . It was acceptable to society my old man and his girlfriend saw it another silly series for kids and teachers freely admitted to watching it . Before that it was a sneaky midnight special back in the late 80s here in the UK. Getting away with watching it made me feel really adult at the time and I always used to dread someone waking up and catching me at it when there was a dramatic or violent scene or one that was bit risk que . This episode turned me into a prisoner addict and I never got to see how they got out of the fire until channel 4 screeened a repeat of it along with the next episode sometime in the late 90s ? In 1989 the next episode I got to watch was the start of Nolas reign of terror post Patty . whom I had a massive crush on at the time :_

Yeah i think it would have made an interesting storyline if Bea had knocked Joan out, they could have put it into the storyline that the fire brigade couldnt find Joans body and Joan is reported as missing. Something like that.
