TallSilentGuy Not that I wanna take this too seriously, because this series is just a bit of fun for me but, are you saying that just because someone's 'ugly' and has values that might be different from the norm that it's okay for their partner to cheat on them? Not sure that I can agree with that, but that's okay... Joan obviously had characteristics for Terri to be attracted to her in the first place. Or maybe Terri was just using her to experiment with her sexuality.

Karin Swift I am not defending Terri's behaviour for one moment. I just wanted to point out that the more brutal laws of nature do prevail within human relationships, often resulting in one partner being dominant and the other becoming a doormat. Joan is at risk of long-term loneliness if the relationship ends but Terri isn't. Therefore Terri knows she has all the bargaining power in the relationship and has no qualms about using it.

I feel terrible for Daffy. All the people who try to talk to her say all of the wrong things to a person who's suicidally depressed, however well-meaning they might be. Nora goes 'snap out of it', Ben goes 'cheer up'...would that it were that easy. Daphne's got every reason to be depressed. She doesn't have much in the way of prospects, just like she says, and the 'friends' who 'care' so much...they patronise living hell out of her. It's painful to watch her go into foetal position in the Pound...absolutely the last thing someone in her position needs...

I think Joan was being pragmatic after realising Terri bats for both teams. Rather than lose her completely, she agreed to let Terri see Barry, but to keep that arrangement separate. A sort of blind polyamorous setup if you like. Joan was hoping that at least Terri would have the decency to keep it out of Joan's sight and earshot. But no, Terri has abused Joan's accommodation of her needs and is getting all bitchy and demanding. Bitch. Sad to see Joan so desperate as to cling on like this. Probably because she finds it hard to form relationships with people so she thinks without Terri she'd have nobody.

I don't feel sorry for her at all. I view all of Joan's personal life scenes as showing a sociopath trying to act normal. Since she lacks empathy and is a total misanthrope she's confused by the whole thing. It's only when she's at the prison that she feels normal. Even with Shane the one time she got upset with him she slapped the shit out of him. I don't think she would have been good for Shane as much as she wanted to be.
