I'm not one of those people who cry at scenes in films or series, but I admit the goodbye scenes with the Major and Shane got me (just a bit). Alright so she's sadistic and nasty at work but I really feel sorry for Joan. She did the right thing stepping aside for the foster parents, but you can see it's killing her inside. She could have been so happy if the courts had been more broadminded and allowed her to keep Shane. If she wasn't so lonely maybe she wouldn't be so poisonous and bitter. Now she's lost the only things that kept her going and she must feel so desolate and lonely :( Maggie Kirkpatrick really inhabits every facet of Joan's character; you can see the sadness in her eyes even though she puts on a brave face like a true soldier.

That part where Shane's reminiscing breaks my heart. Also broke my heart when Joan lied to him about not wanting him. I don't care what anyone says, that wasn't okay to do. I _felt_ the rejection in those lines, and it's a tv show! Children really take things to heart, which is why many grow up with severe problems, if they were abused as children. Even if not abused, children are very impressionable, easy to mold. Since they are easily molded, it could turn out for good or bad when they become adults. Thankful Shane got away from that creeping pervert, pedophile.

I would say that people didn’t think that way in those days. Seeing those young kids at the pinnie parlour was quite typical of the day - many kids, particularly those who lived in the inner city areas, were used to going to those places and weren’t closely supervised. They were streetwise quite young. What Joan said wasn’t unusual. That’s almost two generations ago - and two generations before that, kids were leaving school after grade eight. Looking through the lens of today doesn’t relate to life then.

How times have changed. All it would have took now was one quick DNA sample and Dennis would be off the hook.

Omg, how many of you need to mention Shane’s get well card? It’s been repeated ad nauseam.

How funny that the actress playing Anita was one of Jim fletcher’s girlfriends several hundred episodes ago (Jackie Nolan)🤔

I hate to point this out, but the get well soon card for Shane from his adopted sister was addressed to his real name, Robert! Wonder what went wrong there... Did the writers give the task to a kid who didn't realise his character's name was Shane?

Me too! Watching one of my favourite T.V villains 'mother' him was disappointing, boring and not very entertaining for a great T.V drama like Prisoner.
