I’m active duty. Criminals were once able to be court ordered to the military. It lead to poor results. It also reduces respect for the voluntary service. The military isn’t a rehabilitation service.

I'm a veteran as well, and it's always those who haven't served that suggest impractical ideas like this one. Having criminals join the military is not a good idea.

I went to boot camp back in 02 a I had two guys in my platoon that was court ordered to join the Marines

It's one of those "crazy like a fox" ideas that people come up with while being high. It sounds good on a surface level but falls apart very fast the moment you seriously look into it

Anton, your claim is incorrect! It is unwise to recruit convicts into the armed forces. One should possess direct military experience or background before proposing such a suggestion. During my tenure from 2003 to 2013, criminal groups were involved in drug trafficking and operated a human trafficking network inside the military, using their military skills for illegal purposes after leaving the service. Allowing inmates to join the military is a flawed idea.😢😢

Tukay is a whole country bumpkin! This is a real thing, prisoner to military service i.e French Foreign Legion and American courts kinda do it with younger people (go to jail or join the military). Many countries have mandatory service, America should start that back up like in the 50's I'm a Marine served 3 tours of combat, severed with many of jail birds and they became much better people and citizens.

It is a terrible idea. Another very small factor that should be considered once the other factors have been considered - the military is shrinking in size but the amount of criminals is extremely high.
