PM Lee, if all you cabinet minister start doing this then Singapore is finished. It may be legal but is it ethical to do so, using tax payer money to clean up the entire area which was left to rot but only cleared up so that both these 2 families can move in. There are more than 100 of these B&W houses so are your minister and high ranking cilivians going to start doing this at the expense of tax payer money. Where is the end point ? Once you start the flood gates there is no end to it. We pay high salaries so that Ministers will not do such things, it will stall and curb temptations. It starts with small innocent things and will then progress to bigger things using whatever legal loop holes, positionsor a weak system to obtain information so as to satisfy one's desire. It was reported in the ST News that In response to media queries on the issue, the Singapore Land Authority (SLA), which manages state properties, said on May 12 that both ministers had rented the properties through a bidding process, with Mr Shanmugam the sole bidder for 26 Ridout Road and Dr Balakrishnan the highest bidder for 31 Ridout Road. So now we know that both the ministers rented the properties under direct leasing. If this is not a Conflicting Information, What is? The question is; What drove the SLA to make the conflicting and misleading information in the first place?

As a comparison , It is so much Cheaper than Office Space Rental Rate at the Prime Landed Area. The Question is How did he managed to Extend the lease without a Re-Tender? Many Singaporeans could have rented the space as Office space since it is so much cheaper at $26,500 per month for 249,335 sqft with swimming pool and "Class". According to a recent listing on PropertyGuru, one estate at Ridout Road with a land size of 8,758 sqft was advertised at S$65,000 a month. How would common Singaporeans ascribe such "treatment" if it is not "preferential treatment"? Or how would you? Do you know why I said Mandate is Unwise?

Minister Lee, anymore 0.11 cents/sqft/month for 23,000 sqm Good Class Bungalow for Singaporeans to rent or not? I am sure many Singaporeans want to rent for 3 X 3 X 3 X 3 years "special" contract, no need re-tender type. In HDB, even the aircon ledge exceeding 1m width is counted as chargeable GFA space. Maybe Singaporeans should tell the HDB the aircon ledge is non "livable space"?

Now that you know his rent, you can possibly outbid him when it’s due for expiry. Just write to SLA. The maintenance cost will kill you. It’s not just any rented GCB where landlord takes care of everything. SLA does not take care of anything and the renovation and restoration work for such bungalow is usually very costly.

CPIB was only looking at corruption and crime. But the issues here is compliance to the spirit of the Ministerial code of conduct, if there is conflict of interest, real or perceived which CPIB does not deal with. If you can get landed Good Class GCB for 11 cents/psf/month then the HDB should be priced at 11 cents/psf/month divided by 100 to take account for multi-floors, multi-units, Non-prime area and lesser privacy Or at 0.11 / 100 * 1000 sqft * 12 mths * 99 years = no more than $1, 306.80 for a 5 rooms HDB lease-hold apartment.

Is there any way to find out what is the rental collected per month for Shan and V.B's GCB. That should give a clear bench mark of what RENTAL a GCB should fetch. Also will give us a direct comparison of what PSF the ministers rented out their GCB and in turn what rent they offered to pay for a SLA managed GCB.
