This was my uncles regiment during the Korean war. He was at Kapyong and had some interesting comments about it. He stayed in the army till Vietnam and rose to RSM and was an expert in jungle warfare. Sadly died in a car accident after getting out in the early 70s. The communists couldn't kill him but a drunk driver did.

Awesome video. Having spent two decades in ROK and a student of history I found this interesting. Cheers 🍻 from East Coast Canada 🇨🇦.

the buckled gaiters/leggings were also worn at the beginning of the Vietnam war ..only they were in black instead of the 'buff' colour :)

I think your audience would enjoy a comparison of the uniforms worn by the New Zealanders, Australians, Canadians and the Middlesex at the battle of Kapyong.

Great vid!! ...Korea is referred to as our [Australian] "Forgotten War" overshadowed by WW2 and Vietnam, but we had a considerable contingent considering the size of our Army at the time! One point I will make/correct/rectify... is the chin strap on the Slouch Hat (Hat, Khaki, Fur Felt) ! The buckle should be in line with the edge of the mouth. To do this, position the buckle [which will make it way too loose!] then, under the sweat band on the opposite side, you'll find there is an inverted T-hook. Disconnect the chin strap, adjust it by carefully cutting another slot for the t-hook. That's the method taught at Kapooka [First Recruit Training Battalion, 1RTB] ...every Digger did it. Again a good vid. Well done!

Many thanks for commenting! Regarding the buckle looking at photos from Korea it seems many Diggers in the early '50s weren't so particular but it's a mod I'll certainly carry out as it'll make things more accurate for later periods as and when I cover them! Thanks for the tip.

Bad question, how did you get the rolled groundsheet on the large pack? I've seen on manuals for the Naval service that they also roll greatcoats and carry it on the large pack. The manual said to tie it using a lanyard but how is that done? Sorry
