An excellent video with accurate information about the uniform and kit a Home Guard would have had in 1942, a video which ALL Home Guard re-enactors should watch and take notes on, which is what I did when I got into the hobby back in 2018. Too many re-enactors who do Home Guard wear the wrong kit with the wrong uniforms etc. Annoying to see the webbing equipment worn with the denim uniform. This video is one of my favourites! I need to sort out my respirator haversack contents because I'm missing quite a bit, this is the video I use to check what I need (plus checking through Home Guard Regulations, Volume II). Thank you both for this very useful and historically accurate video! This is how it should be done!!

A truly excellent, accurate and authentic video. Top stuff - and a nice change to some of the inaccurate garb some Home Guard re-enactors wear.

Another interesting video. Why did the homeguard use a leather belt when the rest of the webbing was canvas ?
@RiflemanMoore
@RiflemanMoore 6 жыл бұрын
A good question, as far as I'm aware it's because the belt came first in terms of date of issue, the other items were added to it, working with what had already been issued.

Very informative. How do you wear the haversack like a small pack as it only has one strap? Would you thread the belt through the strap at the front?
@RiflemanMoore

Put the strap around your waist, with the haversack infront of you, face down, then flip the haversack up over your head. The strap is thus looped aroud the waist and up over the shoulders to act as shoulder straps.

Dear rifleman, I would like to reenact British troops until the few months after operation Dynamo, or early Free French ground forces. Would you recommend a pattern 37 uniform, a pattern 40, or a mix of both? Yours faithfully, An aspiring reenactor.

I will try and clarify the battledress question in text, it's something I hope to do a video on in the future! There are 3 basic British battledress patterns during the war (there are some variations within patterns); - Battledress, Serge (unlined collar, concealed buttons, pleated pockets, small single pleat dressing pocket on trousers). - 1940 Pattern (lined collar, concealed buttons, pleated pockets, larger double pleat dressing pocket on trousers). - 1940 Utility/1942 Pattern (lined collar, exposed buttons, unpleated pockets, larger double pleat dressing pocket on trousers). Battledress, Serge or 1940 Pattern (as described here) would be fine, or a mix. Don't use the last 1940 Utility/1942 Pattern, the type with exposed buttons and unpleated pockets as it wasn't introduced until '42. The two earlier patterns would be fine.

At some point certainly, go back far enough and it's just an LDV arm band!

Do you think the Home Guard used those 2 coloured green and brown nets on their helmets?
