I like this one. The Army was making fun of Navy yet, you could tell they also respected the Navy as well...

Loved the "Cuffs match the collar" remark and just as it's said there goes the dame. I can only imagine the roars of hilarity when sailors heard THAT one

Is the dog supposed to actually be a metaphor for a sailor that bitches a lot? Cause that reminds me of more than one guy I served with. Or maybe sometimes a dog is just a dog.

I dont get the whole thing with the sailor chasing the girl popping up everywhere. I know theres some kind of period specific joke or reference there with the tune and the sailors way of walking that goes beyond just "a sailor chasing a pretty girl."

It's just the Army mocking the Navy. They are probably going "Hey look how thirsty the Navy boys are!"

It's been a century's old wisdom that having a group of men stuck on a boat with only eachothor for compangy and then releasing them on shore somewhere for a bit with their wages knowing they will likely never see the place again.... well theres a reason the ladies of the night often set up shop within sprinting distance of the docks.
