I can’t express how thankful I am when I’m watching this video to decorate my space

I tend to buy outdoor rugs for my office and love them. They really hold up well to high traffic throughout the year and easy to clean with a vacuum or a garden hose outside. Target has lots of colorful ones that aren’t too expensive. 👍

I might need to go that route - this rug definitely needs to be replaced one way or the other!

It’s so beautiful and inviting!! Also you seem like the sweetest, most down to earth therapist! #goals ❤️

Aw you're too sweet! I hope more therapists show up as themselves (and show their offices!) to normalize themselves and who we are in this profession. ♥️

I am an employee but have a lot of autonomy on decorating. The large furniture is theirs, smaller things mine. We are moving and I will get a larger office, which I am excited about but my current office is very intimate. I realize in doing my research I did a good job with this little office and is probably why my clients love it and often comment on it. I have texture with a pretty blanket and pillows and my lighting is great. I also have plants. I realized by watching this and doing additional research what to keep. I am concerned about keeping the intimate feel but I think the rug idea will work, so thank you very much. I will keep watching as one day I want to go out on my own, but not yet.

Oh exciting! Love that you've gotten such great feedback on your space. It is a funny experience that bigger is not always better! With bigger spaces I've found you can keep that "cozy" vibe by diving the room into smaller spaces or zones. I had a supervisor earlier on whose office was about three times bigger than mine is, and he used little room dividers to create a sense of enclosure around the seating area for therapy. Best wishes to you!

Love it! So inviting! Also, I love that you use the botanical names for plants! I do the same thing. :)

You are very neat. I am an advocate that the setting is important. At the very least, it should not distract from the overall ambiance of the therapy process. By the way, you appear to be very practical when it comes to expenditures. You are definitely financially savvy. Well done and THANKS!

Like your sofa. I bought one from Amazon, but it is not as comfortable as I like, so I will be looking to replace it .

I just updated the description box with links to as many of my office items I could still find available. The sofa is still available though it's not quite as dirt cheap as it used to be. Still completely affordable! Here's a link: amzn.to/30TNExk

Definitely, enjoy videos like these! I did have two questions come to mind while watching... 1) Do you ever wish you had a separate "office space"? I'm working towards my PsyD and plan to open my own private practice, and I have been considering purchasing a bigger building specifically for a separate office and a counseling room. I've even considered incorporating a prayer/chapel closet as well. I know these add to the $$$$, but there are SO many ideas floating in my head! haha What would you recommend? 2) I LOVE the little clock that faces you! Do you prefer reading clocks or timers? I still feel uncomfortable ending sessions, and I'm not sure what is deemed "most respectful". Thanks! ❤❤❤

LOVE your questions! A dream I've never shared online is that I'd like to purchase my own office building someday with an atrium in the middle. I'd love to work with the community to create a beautiful garden space that can also be used as a confidential meeting area for clients. it certainly would be WAY more expensive but sometimes you gotta go for the gold! I love your dream! I would love to see more therapists break out of conventional practices. Love the idea of a chapel! I've also thought of having a coffee cart and so many other things...so many ideas and so little time :) Ever since I've had my own practice I've had a clock facing me. From my experience, clients respect the need to end on time, but are also usually helped by a bit of a prompt that the time is ending soon. I have a video set to go live once I'm on leave all about ending sessions on time, so watch for that. Congrats on pursuing your PsyD, best wishes to you! ♥️

This is helpful! I’m setting up a psychiatry practice and need to be on the computer while with patients. Wondering how to coordinate that. Do you use music in your practice? Thinking about a stero. Maybe that would just be for me?!

I have the same Square chip reader with the Bluetooth connectivity. But my mag swipe looks very different than yours. Yours almost looks like the old headset jack is plugged into another reader with the lightening connector.
@PrivatePracticeSkills5 жыл бұрын
That's exactly right! I've had that magstripe reader since before chip cards existed. When the newer iphones came out, Square released the little adapter which works great!

What a beautiful office! I would feel so cozy if I were a client! Do you have lamps that you turn on for a more dim lit environment in the evenings? I have 3 lamps in my office and I turn them on during evening hours or rainy days and my patients love it! Also, I have my diplomas in my office now and if I do part time private practice someday, I think I'm just going to hang a copy of my BBS license...I'm going to keep my diplomas at my full time job. I'm guessing with subleasing...that's probably the best idea since it's not my own office, but I recall BBS requires therapists to hang their license or copy of their license in the work space. The original copy is also in my office now.

Thanks! I'm about to do a mini office update and I'll post a video of it once it's done. I do have three lamps closer to eye level that are always on as mood lighting. However, I do use the overhead light in addition once it's night time to help us see each other better. I sublet my office to a colleague. She has an area on the wall where she hangs all her credentials - you can always ask if that's something you'd like to do! But I do think it's wise to have your license posted at the very least.
