Thank you! This design of the Koetsuji fence has been around for hundreds of years. However, it is so sophisticated that it does not look out of place even today. I felt that we should preserve this design and the skills to make it.

There is a beautiful balance of 'masculine' and 'feminine' elements in this garden! The squares and rectangles of the paving with right-angled corners and the flowing shapes of the roof tiles and the koetsu-ji gaki! Wonderful harmonious vibe and stunning work!

That's exactly what it is! The contrast between the straight lines of the Kenninji fence and cedar and the curved lines of this Koetsuji fence is really beautiful. They really bring out the best in each other.

The amount of work and detail is amazing; it blows my mind how they lined up all the strips of bamboo to cover the plastic pipe! It looks like a really thick bamboo stalk! The skill and patience this project demands is incredible and it’s exactly what this team brings with each and every step. Thank you! It turned out to be a really great bamboo fence. This bamboo fence is filled with the design of this ancient Kouetsuji fence and the skills of the craftsmen who made it. Bamboo is exposed to rain and wind, so it will gradually weather. There is no particular protection. I think the key to enjoying this garden is to enjoy the process of weathering. wabisabi

If the aligning of the diamond pattern of the fence on a curve wasn't enough. Creating that rail cover out of 5mm strips of bamboo & having everything re-align perfectly is truly an art. One question. How is this fence held up structurally? I see the post at the high point, but the rebar rod was attached to a screw by some wire. Is that all that's holding this fence together? It would seem weak where it's attached at the screw alone.

In most cases, vertical posts are placed in the middle of this bamboo fence. However, in this case, since the surrounding area is enclosed and it is difficult for wind to pass through, we decided not to make pillars for the sake of design. We think the durability will be fine!
