I like how Al made the accordion seem edgy and controversial. It was for laughs but was also kinda cool.

I just loved the callback to "not technically the best but arguably the most famous accordion player in a very specific niche of music"

I always thought of Weird Al as the Frank Zappa of the accordion! Looking forward to watching the film.

My favorite part of all of this is that Weird Al is *in* the movie, playing not-himself.

@@SqueezeandThanks when I was 17. So that’s 28 years . I haven’t been playing constantly and I’m not that talented. One of the first videos I ever posted to KZbin I think from 2007 is me playing my accordion. I also made an actual Accordion Hero game once based on guitar hero .

@@SoundGuy so cool! Do you have any videos up of that accordion hero thing you made? Super interested to hear more about this. It’s totally fine regarding your abilities, in fact I feel the same way, I’m not very good myself but I try and let the neat video work do the heavy lifting 😂 it’s all about finding what makes you happy and lights you up, there’s endless lanes you find yourself in with the accordion or create your own, as long as you’re wearing a smile in the process 😊

Accordion stalker! You coulda been in the film 🪗😻 Nice preview of your later review. Al’s relationship with the 🪗 is complicated and interesting. I hadn’t realized that you were doing something similar to him until you pointed it out. Doing kind of straight cover songs is different than his amplifying the nerdy humor by making funny lyrics on top. The accordion is in a weird spot where it’s shedding some of its uncoolness, because it’s just unfamiliar now. Al is reenacting this 40 or 70 year old “accordions aren’t cool” joke, which kind of puts him out of time. And especially in the last few years he’s become so beloved in the mainstream, that he’s at least made having fun with the accordion cool. It’s an odd combination. Plus he’s just such a genuinely nice guy that that can’t help being a positive. Plus he’s really funny, so if people get over the fact that funny music is as hard to do as “serious” music, then it’s no detriment to have a famous funny accordionist.
@SqueezeandThanks2 жыл бұрын
Haha maybe I can be in the sequel! 🤞😆 yeah we’re very similar which is why I tried so hard to connect with him and become friends, would have been awesome to make the connection and hit it off. Could have totally filled that role! Maybe I can make a fan-made weird Al short film…… 🤔

@@SqueezeandThanks I’ve been thinking about somebody doing song parodies of his work by doing serious lyrics to his original funny songs

I need to see the film, but i will put my point of view about this hate or wrong concept about the accordeon: « Is pure Ignorance unfortunately », there is no word more harmful that the word « Cool » cool is a word associated with consumism, main stream music today is more a product then a piece of art, sooo if you dont consume what is in the mainstream, you are uncool, thats all. The accordeon is one of the most new instruments, conpared to piano, violin, cello, even guitar, and all inatruments produce beautiful pieces of art. Today main stream music is about electronics and music industry, who dont want you educated, educated people in humanities, in culture, in art find the beauty of a sound in a cello, in accordeon, in a sax. Unfortunately the education system now a days do not encourage too much the art, the philosopy and humanities subjects, people are more influenced by tv and by consumism. The accordeon, is just an instrument that can produce a Polka, a Rock melody or a Mozart and Bach piece, and is the second most famous instrument, all cultural music have been influenced by accordeon: from Argentina Tangos Chamame, Brazil, Mexico, USA tex mex, France musette, Jazz, Klezmer, gypsy music, Germany Polka, and now in Eastern Europe they are ver serieous about Classic Accordeon, accordeon for classical music which is perfect. Is a beautiful Instrument

I don't care about Al Yankovic - was he playing accordion or any other instrument - I like accordion's sound and I like that's it's like kind of „mechanical synthesizer”.

That’s a great perspective in regards to the “mechanical synthesizer”, I’ve heard something similar before too but that phrasing seems fitting
