The EME dish is a HAM radio operator, some of us simply can't get the antennas large enough :P

@@sarhtaq I’ve never felt like I’ve had enough disposable income to get into HAM radio 🤣

@@DcSoundOp I am a HAM operator, but something like that is out of my reach :) EME is not my main focus in HAM, more the thrill of getting contacts with smaller equipment and training my ears for listening to weak signals. And I would rather get my own console for musicals instead (like a Yamaha CL5 - PM3 size) ;)

One thing I will chime in here and say is that I tried to buy a used SM7b locally and quickly realized that every single one for sale in my area is a FAKE SM7b. Huge problem in the marketplace right now, very similar to fake SM57's on eBay. If the person listing the item doesn't have a receipt or order form from a reputable Shure dealer, avoid it!

Oh wow, that's wild, I haven't heard of this before. Now I'm tempted to try buy one locally here to see if it's the same thing. Was there something specific that gave away that the ones you were seeing were fake? Thanks for the message.

A few years ago when starting out I bought a whole system for pretty cheap (vintage jbl) and it came with a broken multicore with a stage box and half the tails missing on the FOH end. I spent about 2 Hours re soldering and adding a proper strain relief and gland to the stage box and another 4 trimming and stripping the tails and soldering on new Xlrs to replace the old cannons that made up around half the working channels

That's great that you were able to rehab that one. When I was putting my first sound system together, I saved a ton of money by buying used whirlwind snakes that needed repair and fixing them up how I needed them. I would have never been able to afford that quality otherwise at the time.

I was thinking about @SaveItForParts when you pulled up that dish listing! But that price is ridiculous for an old used thing

The SM7dB was introduced last September 2023 and includes a gain stage with licensed Cloud branding. I assume this caused much of the disruption in the SM7B used market.

That’s right, you know I forgot all about that honestly. If that many people are switching to the new version, I bet Shure are pretty pleased with themselves. Thanks for the message.

It is very common to see businesses of this type here in Portugal. In my opinion, it's practically not worth trying to trade a large piece of relatively recent equipment. I often see that for little more than the advertised prices it is possible to buy new equipment. However, this is not the first time that I have found (and bought) good vintage machinery, at very attractive prices. The only issue is that most of this equipment requires very dedicated technical support, something that is often beyond the capabilities of those who purchase it. Mainly because there aren't many people dedicated to repairing and restoring. Fortunately, I deal with this issue myself and for that reason I think it is still worth investigating. I hope everything is going well with you. Everything is fine here. Best regards Macedo Pinto Portugal

Thanks for the message Macedo, it's great to hear what the market is like there in Portugal. I'd love to get back there for a visit someday, my family went there on summer holiday when I was very young a few times from Ireland, great memories. All the best.

TurbosSound are cheap imports. Between Behringer and Mackie as far as Quality. They actually sound pretty nice for the $$
